Kinh te (Thương mại - Quản trị kinh doanh) TP. HỒ Chí Minh, tháng 2/2024 2 ABSTRACT The study aims to evaluate the influence of green product factors on Gen Z's purchasing decision in Ho Chi Minh City, one of the densely populated cities with high pollution levels in Vietnam. The research was mainly conducted by quantitative method, through an online survey with 267 answers from Gen z young people (born in 1997 - 2012) who are living, studying and working in Ho Chi Minh City.
SPSS 20 and SmartPLS 4 software were used to process the data after it was collected. The following is a summary of the study's findings. First, Gen z shoppers in Ho Chi Minh City care about the environment and want to see it protected. Second, Gen z customers are making an effort to learn about green products, get information about them, and use them.
Thirdly, this study has repercussions for marketing experts creating marketing plans for eco-friendly items in the Vietnamese market specifically and HCMC generally. In terms of application, this study complements the current understanding of green products and its related impact on Gen z purchasing decisions in HCMC. As a source of material for future research, bringing research benefits to businesses in the field of trading in green and environmentally friendly products. Overview Today, the topic of green consumer goods and products has become very common and popular in developed countries, along with the improvement of personal income as well as consumption and consumption thinking. There have been positive changes occurring in developing countries. Consumers are increasingly environmentally conscious and are more interested in environmentally friendly shopping behaviors. Environmentalists see green consumption as an option to “save the earth7' in the face of harsh environmental changes around the world.
Therefore, the trend of using environmentally friendly products has the potential to grow strongly in the coming years. Vietnam is opening a series of campaigns related to sustainable production and consumption, in which the consumption of green products has also been and is starting to receive attention with much greater frequency. Projects and programs related to green products such as: Eco-labelling scheme (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; Energy-saving Label (Ministry of Industry and Trade); Eco-tourism label is also set out. In addition, many related documents have been signed such as: International Declaration on Sustainable Production and Consumption and National Action Plan (1999), legal documents related to consumer protection.; Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act; International Declaration on Cleaner Production (1999),.dealing with the issue of environmental pollution brought on by an excessive amount of airborne hazardous pollutants from industry, transportation, and daily living.
This issue can be lessened and the greenhouse impact can be lessened by learning about and funding research into green energy sources. At the same time, unrestricted use of natural energy eliminates the danger of resource depletion as a result of overuse, providing a foundation for the advancement of the following generation. Ho Chi Minh City has run eight successful green consumption initiatives from 2010 to 2017. As a result, more than 70.000 volunteers contributed to the campaign, and more than four million individuals promised to take part in reacting to the level of consumption of environmentally friendly items.
During the month, the environment has also grown by more than 40% and sometimes even up to 60%. The grocery Coopmart is also included. The aforementioned statistics have also partially demonstrated the influence that these campaigns have on society as a whole, inspiring volunteers to donate 11 to the cause and companies to keep up their efforts. In addition, these programs and campaigns with many specific activities will contribute to encouraging, stimulating as well as promoting businesses to voluntarily comply with the law on environmental protection, improve the quality of environmental protection.
The living environment of the people as well as the sustainable development goals in the future. Many businesses have recently concentrated on investing in cutting-edge gear and equipment that complies with international requirements as well as green and clean manufacturing standards. This helps the company's goods gain market share, stay current with trends, and understand the changing preferences of today's consumers. In the field of marketing, topics related to environmental issues as well as green and sustainable consumer behavior have attracted considerable research interest from scholars and practitioners ( Abdulrazak and Quoquab, 2018; Narula and Desore, 2016).
However, research on environmental issues of young consumers is of little interest in the current context of emerging countries, especially in Asia (Adnan et al. Moreover, research results are not consistent on the factors affecting green buying behavior in the current situation, such as the role of material values that need to be further investigated (Nguyen et al.; Segev el al., 2015; Strizhakova and Coulter, 2013). Although green consumption has been used with different terms such as eco- conscious or environmentally friendly and socially responsible consumption, most of studies sought to provide a more comprehensive understanding on young consumers* green purchase behavior in a specific emerging market, i. Vietnam, by focusing on a number of rational, normative, emotional and self-identity determinants (Nguyen et al.
Green consumption can include many different behaviors, including buying and post-purchase behavior, in which buying behavior is also considered as the first in the chain of green behaviors. Green purchasing is the purchase of green products that are defined as those with low impact on the environment, less harmful to human health, formed or partially formed from recycled materials, produced in the direction of saving raw materials affecting the environment. Currently, there are many definitions of green products and there is still no unified definition. For example, (Shamdasani et al., 1993) defines a green product as one that does not pollute the earth or harm natural resources and can be recycled and preserved.
It is a product whose components or packaging 12 lessen their influence on the environment, making them more environmentally friendly. While green goods were defined by Nimse et al. in 2007 as those that employ recyclable materials, have the ability to decrease waste, consume less water and energy, have less packaging, and release the least amount of dangerous elements into the environment. In other words, "green products" refer to goods that lessen packaging, utilize fewer hazardous materials, and integrate recycling techniques with recycled content to lessen their negative effects on the environment.
Young people are very interested in placing their interest in the origin of the product, whether it be green veggies or a car, says Sheryl Connelly, Director of Global Consumer Trends Research at Ford. They are conscious of and recognize their personal accountability for helping to address pressing societal issues, particularly when using their financial resources. To preserve our competitive advantage in the market, we must adapt to the requirements of today's consumers. These behaviors, which we take for granted, are what cause the numerous unanticipated effects of climate change, environmental contamination, saltwater incursion owing to sea level rise, and the depletion of natural resources, increasingly depleted as a result of inappropriate and unscientific exploitation.
How much more convenient is life for individuals when technology advances make it more convenient and condensed? Mother Nature is undeniably more polluted and damaged. Plastic bags and other consumer goods made of non-biodegradable plastic are dumped into the environment in increasing numbers as natural resources become depleted.
