The explosion of information technology, notably social networking sites, with over 3.8 billion users worldwide, demonstrates that this is a location where individuals utilize creative tools to generate images on the Internet. According to Digital 2021 [Global Digital Insights, 2021], mobile phones are the most extensively used Internet devices in all nations, with 9 out of 10 Internet users accessing the Internet via a smartphone.
According to Iris Marketing Agency (2020), 73.56 million Vietnamese people use social networks or 75.6% of the total population. By 2025, the number of people utilizing social media will reach 93. Compared to other social networking sites, the social video app TikTok declared 1 billion monthly active users worldwide in September 2021, a 45% growth from 689 million active users. Previously reported monthly activity in July 2020 (Statista).
Because users are "addicted" to TikTok, the platform is expected to become a "golden land" for brand marketing operations [Quyen Ho, Hai Bich; 2022]. The software has proven popular in Vietnam, with 16 million downloads and a 160% rise in downloads on iOS by 2020 [Le Hong Long, 2022]. TikTok has quickly ascended to No. 4 in the Vietnam market app rankings, below Facebook, Zalo, and Instagram.
With almost 50 million users engaged with the social video platform as of 2023, Vietnam has the second largest TikTok viewership in Asia. The age group 16-25 years old accounts for 67% of total users (according to Statista estimates for Quarter 4, 2022). TikTok has lately expanded its capability to become a social commerce platform in Vietnam, particularly the TikTok LIVE feature, which local online consumers find easy to use, convenient, and pleasant. According to a recent survey, more than 30% of Internet users in Vietnam utilize social networking platforms to research products before purchasing them.
Simultaneously, the proportion of enterprises that have sold products on social networks is growing. Social media has even exceeded e-commerce sites and company websites in taking customer orders. Many Vietnamese customers, particularly students, have turned to online outlets for necessities. Social commerce is currently used for purchases ranging from snacks to home supplies, fashion, and cosmetics.
Many firms in Vietnam now use live streaming as part of their social commerce strategy. While commercial live streaming has taken over China's e- commerce sector, it is still in its early stages in Vietnam. According to a 2020 survey of Southeast Asia social commerce users, every country's number of social commerce orders increased from the first to the second quarter. Our country's growth rate is calculated to be 101% (Statistic).
Buying and selling things on TikTok Livestreams quickly became popular due to the platform's features, rapidly rising user base, and muscular development of social commerce. And more broadly, as a result, the research objective of this research paper is to discover "the purchase intention of students in Hanoi city on the TikTok Livestream." The author chose students in Hanoi as the research object because they are clients with substantial buying needs and the group with the most remarkable TikTok usage rate. Research objective Overall objective: to study the factors affecting the online purchase intention of Hanoi students on the TikTok live stream platform. Research outline The research has 5 chapters, including: The first chapter introduces the literature review and theoretical basis The second chapter is about research methodology, design and procedure, pilot test, survey adjustment, variables measurement, data collection and analysis method. The fourth chapter is data analysis and results. The final chapter is a discussion on findings, limitations of this research, the recommendation for future studies and implications if there is any CHAPTER 1: LITERATURE REVIEW AND THEORETICAL BASIC 1.1 Foreign documents TikTok is no longer a strange application to users around the world. As of January 2023, the United States has the most extensive viewership, with approximately 113 million people interacting with the popular social video platform.
Indonesia follows, with around 110 million TikTok users. Brazil ranks third, with nearly 82 million people. In particular, the Livestream sales feature on TikTok has earned a considerable revenue stream, especially in China - the birthplace of the application. According to statistics, as of September 2022, Douyin, TikTok's sister app, reportedly has 88.7% of users streaming live content in China.
The Beijing-based short video platform is growing in popularity in the country. Its users spend at least 89 minutes watching videos on the platform daily. That same year, Douyin generated 1.5 trillion yuan from its direct trading business. In 2021, Linqi Peng analyzed the benefits of Tiktok in digital marketing development.
According to the author, digital marketing has considerably impacted the entire economy on a global scale. In the past, the conventional marketing model was far from direct selling. In the absence of the disruptive digital marketing brought about by the ubiquitous internet, intermediaries have intervened from the beginning between producers and consumers, so potential consumers can only purchase from intermediaries. Therefore, the product price will be increased; the beneficiary is the middleman.
Then, selling via live stream changed this and stimulated economic growth. Eliminating intermediaries significantly reduces the costs consumers pay and increases the rewards producers obtain, especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). As a result, both 10 buyer demand and producer supply will spike, encouraging long-term economic growth [Lingi Peng, 2021; Sumas Wongsunopparat, 2021]. After that, the work of D.
Aithal continued to develop the study of Lingi Peng. According to the authors, Livestream helps promote authenticity - build trust with customers, while at the same time opening up a broader reach and approach. Some advantages of online broadcasting include estimating audience groups, better recommending ability, rich content, and more effective ways of interacting with the target market. In addition, the authors also provide criteria for a successful live stream. The requirements include: (1) Average Minute Audience, (2) Live to On-Demand ratio, (3) Viewer Demographics, (4) Social Media Sharing (5) Viewers Online [D.Rajasekar and Aithal.
The authors have very clearly analyzed the strengths and weaknesses and specific criteria so that an individual or business can increase their revenue and the conversion rate from viewers to buyers. Apasrawirote and Yawised (2022) have continued to develop the work of Lingi Peng, D. Aithal when specifically analyzing the factors affecting the purchase decision on the live stream to find ways to optimize the way to play. Direct waves increase the efficiency of attracting customers; based on the evaluation criteria outlined above.
The results show that customer perception (B = 0.05) and marketing mix (B = 0.05) have a significant positive impact on perceived value.001) also had a positive effect on consumer attitudes. Furthermore, customers' perceived values and attitudes influence their behavioural intentions. Thus, the results reaffirmed the positive role of behavioural intention on online purchase intention [Apasrawirote and Yawised, 2022].087* Perceived Value Perception H5=0.264*** Online Intention Purchasing Intention (OPI) Content xu R0371 Marketing 30.186** [ mRuaer eee | Amde _| Attitude R?=0.482 Source: Apasrawirote va Yawised (2022) Figure 1. 1: Results of the Theoretical Model of Online Purchase Intention Desy Eka Sanjaya and colleagues (2022) added factors that directly influence the TikTok live stream platform purchase decisions.
The authors used the SOR model to explain the influence of the external environment on human behaviour. Marketers, such as price and product advertising, and uncontrollable categories, such as economic conditions, technological progress, and natural conditions, can control two types of stimuli. The study has introduced new influencing factors, including (1) Promotion, (2) Promotion duration, (3) Interaction between consumers and consumers (5) Perceived risk. 12 Price Promotion (PP) Promotion Time Limit (PTL) Perceived Risk Online Purchase (PR) Intention (OPI) Consumer-Streamer Interaction (CSI) ConsumerConsumer Interaction (CCI) Source: Desy Eka Sanjaya et al.(2022) Figure 1, 2: Research model of the effect on Consumers' Online Purchase Intention through the TikTok Live Streaming Platform According to the research results, price and limited-time promotions and interpersonal interactions, including consumer-to-live broadcaster and consumer- to-consumer, have a positive impact.
Intention to purchase online. In addition, the researchers also further identified perceived risk as having a significant and negative impact on online purchase intention.
