A well-managed organization usually considers an average worker as the root source of quality and productivity gains. An effective organization will make sure that there is a spirit of cooperation and sense of commitment within the sphere of its influence.
In order to satisfy employees and make them committed to their jobs, the need for strong and effective motivation at various levels will be more obvious. Motivating is the management process of influencing behavior based on the knowledge of what make people tick. Also, employees’ commitment to the organization is a crucial issue in today's changing world. Commitment of employees can be an important instrument for improving the performance of the organizations.
Previous studies on commitment have shown that employees with higher organizational commitment engage in organizational behavior and this, in turn, results in better performance and higher work motivation that are beneficial to the organization. Therefore, employees’ productivity is highly related to their motivation levels and a higher level of organizational commitment. Thus, it is important for an organization to examine the relationships between these two variables. The term of "commitment" has been defined, measured and investigated variously and extensively but what is important is to examine the relationships between these two variables (work motivation and organizational commitment).
In this study, I intend to examine the relationship between the work motivation and the organizational commitment in the case of EQuest Academy. In this period, the author observed employees working, learned from them and directly took part in some works in the Marketing Department.
This research used quantitative method and the strategy of inquiry used was survey. The places where survey was carried out are 6 branches of EQuest Academy in Hanoi. This study is conducted from March 1 to May 5, 2014 in EQuest Academy - Hanoi by using quantitative method to complete the study. Data collected from this research was analysed and evaluated by SPSS in order to find out the answers for two main questions above.
General structure: The study is divided into five main chapters with four main contexts: Chapter 1: Literature review and theoretical framework This chapter will give theoretical framework related to the research and it contains main concepts about work motivation, organizational commitment and conceptual model in this research. Chapter 2: Research methodology Chapter 2 will include the details of research method and the process of survey conducting. Especially, in this chapter, data or statistics will be collected and prepared for data analysis. Chapter 3: Current situation and analysis result from research model at EQuest Academy — Hanoi This chapter encompasses data analysis and shows analysis results after using SPSS 16.0 software to analyze.
Data will be tested via exploratory factor analysis and regression analysis. Chapter 4: Findings and suggestions This chapter will present the conclusion, implications and recommendations based on results and findings in chapter 4. CHAPTER 1: LITERATURE REVIEW AND THEORETICAL FRAMEWORKS 1. Work motivation According to Pinder (2000), work motivation is a set of energetic forces that originate both within as well as beyond an individual's being, to establish work- related behaviors, and to determine the form, direction, duration and intensity of these behaviors. Motivation is a person's internal disposition to be concerned with and approach positive incentives and avoid negative incentives. Further, according to Deckers (2010), an incentive is the anticipated reward or aversive event available in the environment.
On the other hand, motivation can often be used as a tool to predict behavior, and it varies greatly among individuals and should often be combined with ability and environmental factors to influence performance and behaviors of employees. According to Jex & Britt (2008) and Mitchell & Daniels (2003), because of the motivation's role in influencing workplace performance and behaviors, it is a key factor for any organizations to understand and to structure the work environment to encourage productive behaviors; and discourage those unproductive employees. Intrinsic motivation From the 1970’s several authors studied the concept of intrinsic motivation. Very first, Lawler (1969) defined this concept “as the degree to which a job holder is motivated to perform well because of some subjective rewards or feelings that he expects to receive or experience as a result of performing well.” In this way an individual performs well in his or her job to satisfy the higher order needs, which will ultimately lead to intrinsic motivation.
External rewards play no role with regard to behavior in this definition of intrinsic motivation. Although this definition was quite effective in the early 1970’s, it did not take into account psychological processes underlying behaviors.
