Many types of Vietnamese fruits have a large output among the highest global production in 2014 such as: litchi, dragon fruit, longan, coconut, passion fruit. In recent years, Vietnam's fruit export has achieved accomplishments.
Fruit export value reached $ 460.3 million in 2010, reaching $ 4,000 million in 2019 (Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development). With these achievements, the fruit export sector has made an important contribution to improving the efficiency of agricultural land use, creating jobs for people and promoting the development of processing industries. For many years, China has been the main export market of Vietnamese fruit, accounting for about 80% of the total output of fruits. However, too much dependence on a single market has led to many negative consequences for Vietnamese fruit export.
Many Chinese traders and enterprises have repeatedly stopped buying or reduced the quantity of imports, causing serious consequences for farmers. Moreover, because of their monopoly on buying, Chinese merchants often squeeze prices, especially when farmers have a good harvest. Therefore, Vietnameses fruit needs to find a way to expand export markets to developed countries to reduce dependence on the Chinese market. One of the potential markets of Vietnamese fruit is Japan with total fruit consumption about 5.4 million tons per year, of which 1.8 million tons are imported.
Therefore, this is one of the largest fruit import area in the world. Vietnam and Japan have signed many important economic agreements such as the Vietnam - Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (VJEPA) which has been implemented since 2010 until now. The important point of this 9 Luan van agreement is the strong tax reduction on agricultural products exported to Japan. Among 2,020 agricultural tariff lines, Japan has immediately eliminated 784 tariff lines, accounting for 36% of the total number of agricultural product tax lines and accounts for 67.6% of the value of Vietnam's exports.
However, exporting fruits to Japna requires various standards such as product quality and safety. Hence, I decided to choose the topic "Solutions to promote Vietnam’s fruit export to Japan" 2. Overview of related research works In Vietnam, there have been a number of studies on exporting agricultural products in general and exporting fruits in particular, such as: Author Assoc. Dinh Van Thanh (2010) in the study "Strengthening the participation capacity of agricultural products in the global value chain of Vietnam" has studied international experience and propose policies and solutions to strengthen the participation capacity of Vietnamese agricultural products in the global value chain in the context of developing a socialist-oriented market economy, globalization and economic integration.
In the study "Added value of agricultural products for export of Vietnam" the authors of Prof. Luong Xuan Quy and Prof. Le Dinh Thang pointed out that the increase in the added value of agricultural products for export depends on factors that increase endogenous and exogenous value added such as increasing factors that increase the revenue of agricultural production, reduce intermediary costs, improve product quality, and ensure more and more sustainable consumption conditions for goods in the world market. However, the data of the thesis used to analyze the current situation of production, processing and export of agricultural products only stopped in 2004 and in competitive conditions that are not as fierce as today.
The author has not yet given a general assessment of the development of key export 10 Luan van agricultural products in the current industrialization and modernization conditions in Vietnam. In the topic "Output solutions for fresh fruit products of the Mekong Delta" by the author Assoc. Vo Thanh Thu is the project leader (2001) mentioned the impacts on consumption of fresh fruit in the Mekong Delta for domestic and foreign markets, the status of traditional distribution channels. Thereby proposing solutions to boost the consumption of fresh fruit.
The topic does not address the issue from a service perspective. Nguyen Van Lich in the topic "World fruit market and Vietnam's export prospects until 2018" mentioned the possibility of consuming 6 main potential fruits of Vietnam. Through the topic, the author has strengthened the basis of the success of the Vietnamese fruit industry. The topic "Some solutions to improve the competitiveness of fruit exports of the Mekong Delta in the context of international economic integration" by Ha Thi Ngoc Oanh (2015) mentioned the competitive factor of fruit products in the Mekong Delta.
In which, the author has given a formula to calculate the competitiveness of fruit products between regions and countries. In addition, the thesis also mentions qualitative and quantitative criteria to evaluate competitiveness, but the topic has not comprehensively studied services related to fruit goods in systematic order. In summary, so far the research works have only focused on the export activities of the entire agricultural sector and some key agricultural products of Vietnam such as rice, coffee, rubber, cashew, tea, etc. Some studies have turned to fruit - a growing commodity with high economic value to be the object of research.
However, the new topics only go into deep analysis in a small research area, about a type of fruit or a traditional region and locality. A few topics have given an overview of the current situation of Vietnam's fruit 11 Luan van exports to a number of old markets and regions, and the data has not been updated compared to the current fierce competition. Therefore, I hope that my thesis will be a new approach for Vietnam’s fruit export to new markets such as Japa, the EU, the US, etc. Research objectives On the basis of assessing the current situation of Vietnam’s fruit export, the thesis is implemented to propose solutions to promote Vietnam’s fruit to Japan.
Missions To achieve this goal, the thesis focuses on solving the following three tasks: 1.Give an overview of some theoretical and practical issues about fruit export activities. Assess the status of fruit export of Vietnam to Japna in the period 2015-2020 3. Proposing a number of solutions to promote Vietnam's fruit exports to Japan in the period of 2021 - 2030. Methods of data collection Information and data sources: The study uses three main sources of information: the Internet, the analysis report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and some other scientific research articles.
Methods of data analysis I have used some traditional methods such as meta-analysis, statistical methods: Meta-analytical approach: Reviewing and evaluating specific content to make an assessment of Vietnam’s fruit export. Statistical analysis approach: Using the collected data to evaluate the analysis of Vietnam’s fruit exports to Japanese market. The structure of dissertation In addition to the table of contents, list of acronyms, list of tables, list of images and appendices, my dissertation is divided into four chapters: Chapter 1: Literature and empirical review of fruit export. Chapter 2: General introduction to Japanese fruit market and important trade agreements between Vietnam-Japan Chapter 3: The situation of Vietnafruit’s fruit export to Japan from 2015 to 2020.
Chapter 4: Solutions to promote Vietnam’s fruit exports to Japanese market in 2021-2030. 13 Luan van CHAPTER 1: LITERATURE AND EMPIRICAL REVIEW OF FRUIT EXPORT 1.
