With the trend of opening economy in the world, the competition in Vietnamese banking sector has become more intense forcing most commercial banks to release newly profitable products and services.
Electronic banking is now considered as an appreciated application which is well-developed in most Vietnamese commercial banks in general, and in Tien Phong Commercial Joint Stock Bank- Linh Dam branch in particular. TPBank Linh Dam has identified Electronic banking as a sharp knife in the competition and development processes, so only after four months of establishment, Electronic banking package was officially launched in October 2008. With advanced technology foundation and professional standard, TPBank is a pioneer in modern banking services, aiming to their clients’ benefits. The Electronic banking services are executed only upon the customers through internet and modern machines bringing the flexibility and convenience to customers.
Indeed, TPBank Linh Dam also provides the high-level security and risk management systems for Electronic banking services creating belief to their customers. Therefore, more and more clients have chosen TPBank as a final destination for their savings and loans. Technology in TienPhongBank is gradually opening up a new way of thinking in banking transactions which are not time-consuming and costly. This research is conducted to determine whether the Electronic banking services in TPBank Linh Dam are rapid, efficient, and accurate in banking industry or not.
Rationale The internet is one of the greatest inventions of humanity in the twentieth century, which has had a great impact on the socio-economic development. E-commerce has created a great turning point for trading goods and services currently applied in most economic sectors. Electronic banking is a concept that began to flourish as the number of banks offering this service has increased sharply since 2004. To survive and develop, TienPhongBank has paid more efforts in catching up with the modernization process of the banking sector.
TPBank not only improves traditional products but also focuses on Electronic banking services, meeting the requirements of enhancing competitiveness, integration and development. This research paper aims to demonstrate the actual situation of Electronic banking services in TienPhongBank and to clarify either its benefits to customers and the bank or the limitation and problems that this bank has to cope up with in implementation process. Research objectives This thesis is produced to assess the feasibility and applicability of Electronic banking with respect to individual and corporate consumers of Electronic banking and to observe how TPBank Linh Dam is carrying towards on the advance system. More particularly, the primary objective is to review the development history, mission and business plan of TPBank Linh Dam which will facilitate the readers in recognizing the evolution of Electronic Banking and will consequently enable them in evaluating its need at the present time.
Besides, this thesis also analyzes the current development conditions of Electronic banking services at TPBank Linh Dam. The final objective is to access the benefits and disadvantages of Electronic banking so that suitable solutions can be suggested. Scope of the study The thesis focuses on evaluating the performance and development of Electronic banking services at Tien Phong Commercial Joint Stock Bank- Linh Dam branch thanks to the 2 information and statistics of the bank which were presented in the period from 2014 to 2017. Methodology of the study 1.
The method of data collection This research is conducted with analytical and exploratory nature to investigate the development of Electronic banking in TPBank Linh Dam as well as their strategies to improve services’ qualities to customers. Besides, both the primary and secondary collection data method are applied which uses reliable sources such as TPBank’s reports, website, and interviews to collect data. The method of data analysis 1. Horizontal analysis A horizontal analysis is a procedure in fundamental analysis comparing ratios or line items in a bank's statistics over a certain period of time.
According to Bragg (2017), horizontal analysis is the comparison of historical financial information over a series of reporting periods, or of the ratios derived from this financial information. The intent is to see if any numbers are unusually high or low in comparison to the information for bracketing periods, which may then trigger a detailed investigation of the reason for the difference. The analysis is commonly a simple grouping of information that is sorted by period, but the numbers in each succeeding period can also be expressed as a percentage of the amount in the baseline year, with the baseline amount being listed as 100%. Vertical analysis Bragg (2017) states that vertical analysis is the proportional analysis of a statistic, where each item is listed in percentage.
Mahmud (2013) claims the main advantage of vertical analysis is that the financial reports of bank can easily be compared. It also makes it easy to see relative annual changes within the bank. The most common use of vertical analysis is within a statistic for a single time period to see the relative proportions of account balances. Vertical analysis is also useful for 3 timeline analysis to review relative changes in accounts over time, such as on a comparative basis over a five-year period.
Trend analysis Trend analysis is an aspect of technical analysis that tries to predict the future movement of a bank’s finance based on past data. Trend analysis is the process of trying to look at current trends in order to predict future ones and is considered a form of comparative analysis. This can include attempting to determine whether a current market trend, such as gains in a particular market sector, is likely to continue, as well as whether a trend in one market area could result in a trend in another. Mahmud (2013) claims that trend analysis can provide an early warning of a potential improvement or deterioration in a bank’s financial situation or performance.
This measure engages in extensive number of the financial data in a bank’s quarterly financial reports. Successful banks generally have solid ratios in all areas, and any hints of weakness in one area may spark a significant sell-off in the stock. Certain ratios are closely scrutinized because of their relevance to a certain sector, as for instance inventory turnover for the retail sector and DSO. Research questions This research aims to provide answers to the following questions: - What are the current development situations of Electronic banking at TPBank? - Does Electronic banking bring any benefit to the bank as well as to their customers? - What are customers’ concerns when using Electronic banking at TPBank? 1.
Organization of the study The thesis has been divided into four main parts as follows: Chapter 1: Introduction Chapter 2: Theoretical background Chapter 3: Electronic banking development at Tien Phong Commercial Joint Stock 4 Bank- Linh Dam branch Chapter 4: Orientations and solutions 1. Previous studies The definition of Electronic banking varies among researchers, because Electronic banking refers to several types of services through which clients can request information and carry out most retail banking services via computers or mobile phones by Jayshree (2013). Such transactions include deposit taking, lending, account management, electronic bill payment, and the provision for other products and services such as electronic money (Basel committee on banking supervision, 2003). Electronic banking services have benefits for both banks and customers.
For the bank, Electronic banking is conceded as a strategic weapon helping them to achieve competitive advantage and increase their market share. Furthermore, using electronic services can save the cost of resources, which are needed for traditional banking services by Jenet (2011).
