I. Giới thiệu Nghiên cứu Chuyển ngữ Facebook Song ngữ Anh Việt

Nghiên cứu về chuyển ngữ Facebook ngày càng trở nên quan trọng trong bối cảnh toàn cầu hóa và sự phát triển mạnh mẽ của ngôn ngữ trên mạng xã hội. Hiện tượng code-switching Facebook đặc biệt phổ biến ở người dùng song ngữ Anh-Việt, những người thường xuyên tương tác trực tuyến. Bài viết này sẽ khám phá sâu hơn về hiện tượng này, từ định nghĩa, các loại chuyển ngữ, đến động cơ và ảnh hưởng của nó. Dữ liệu được thu thập từ các trạng thái và bình luận trên Facebook của người dùng song ngữ, phân tích theo phương pháp ngôn ngữ học xã hội. Nghiên cứu này dựa trên công trình của Dương Thị Hồng Thắm (2016), người đã điều tra hiện tượng chuyển đổi mã trong danh sách bạn bè của mình trên Facebook. Nghiên cứu của Thắm đã chỉ ra rằng chuyển ngữ không chỉ là một hiện tượng ngôn ngữ mà còn là một phần của identities song ngữ và văn hóa trực tuyến.

1.1. Tổng quan về Hiện tượng Chuyển ngữ và Code switching

Chuyển ngữ (code-switching) là hiện tượng sử dụng xen kẽ hai hay nhiều ngôn ngữ trong cùng một cuộc hội thoại hoặc văn bản. Nó khác với code-mixing, một khái niệm liên quan nhưng thường chỉ sự pha trộn ở cấp độ từ vựng. Code-switching Facebook là một hình thức đặc biệt của hiện tượng này, xảy ra trong môi trường giao tiếp trực tuyến. Nó có thể bao gồm việc chuyển đổi giữa các câu, các cụm từ, hoặc thậm chí các từ đơn lẻ. Theo Poplack (1980), chuyển ngữ có thể được phân loại thành ba loại chính: chuyển ngữ giữa câu (inter-sentential), chuyển ngữ trong câu (intra-sentential), và chuyển ngữ gắn thẻ (tag switching).

1.2. Tầm quan trọng của Nghiên cứu Ngôn ngữ trên Mạng xã hội

Nghiên cứu ngôn ngữ trên mạng xã hội ngày càng trở nên quan trọng do sự gia tăng tương tác trực tuyến và ảnh hưởng của mạng xã hội đến cách chúng ta giao tiếp. Facebook, với hàng tỷ người dùng trên toàn thế giới, là một môi trường lý tưởng để nghiên cứu các hiện tượng ngôn ngữ mới, bao gồm cả chuyển ngữ. Việc hiểu rõ các yếu tố thúc đẩy và ảnh hưởng của chuyển ngữ Facebook có thể giúp chúng ta hiểu rõ hơn về bản sắc ngôn ngữ và văn hóa trực tuyến của người dùng song ngữ.

II. Thách thức Phân tích Chuyển ngữ Facebook Song ngữ Anh Việt

Phân tích chuyển ngữ Facebook của người dùng song ngữ Anh-Việt đặt ra nhiều thách thức. Đầu tiên, dữ liệu ngôn ngữ trên mạng xã hội thường không chính thức, chứa nhiều lỗi chính tả, từ lóng, và biểu tượng cảm xúc, đòi hỏi các phương pháp phân tích ngôn ngữ học chuyên biệt. Thứ hai, việc xác định mục đích chuyển ngữ (referential, directive, expressive, phatic, metalinguistic) không phải lúc nào cũng dễ dàng, đặc biệt trong môi trường giao tiếp trực tuyến nơi ngữ cảnh thường bị hạn chế. Thứ ba, số lượng lớn dữ liệu cần xử lý đòi hỏi các công cụ và kỹ thuật phân tích dữ liệu tự động. Nghiên cứu này sẽ cố gắng vượt qua những thách thức này bằng cách sử dụng kết hợp các phương pháp phân tích định tính và định lượng.

2.1. Vấn đề Dữ liệu Phi cấu trúc và Ngôn ngữ Mạng

Dữ liệu từ Facebook thường ở dạng phi cấu trúc, với các đặc điểm như chính tả không chuẩn, sử dụng từ lóng, viết tắt, và biểu tượng cảm xúc. Điều này gây khó khăn cho việc phân tích bằng các công cụ xử lý ngôn ngữ tự nhiên (NLP) truyền thống. Cần có các phương pháp tiền xử lý dữ liệu đặc biệt để làm sạch và chuẩn hóa dữ liệu trước khi phân tích. Ngoài ra, cần phải xem xét ngữ cảnh sử dụng tiếng lóng, các biến thể ngôn ngữ và các thực hành ngôn ngữ cụ thể trên Facebook.

2.2. Giải mã Động cơ Chuyển ngữ trong Tương tác Trực tuyến

Xác định mục đích chuyển ngữ là một thách thức lớn. Người dùng có thể chuyển đổi mã để diễn đạt ý nghĩa chính xác hơn, để thể hiện bản sắc, để tạo sự hài hước, hoặc đơn giản chỉ là thói quen. Ngữ cảnh của cuộc trò chuyện, mối quan hệ giữa những người tham gia, và chủ đề thảo luận đều có thể ảnh hưởng đến mục đích chuyển ngữ. Cần phải kết hợp phân tích diễn ngôn và ngữ cảnh sử dụng ngôn ngữ để hiểu rõ hơn về động cơ của người dùng song ngữ.

III. Phương pháp Phân tích Chuyển ngữ Facebook Song ngữ Anh Việt

Nghiên cứu này sử dụng một phương pháp kết hợp để phân tích chuyển ngữ Facebook của người dùng song ngữ Anh-Việt. Đầu tiên, dữ liệu được thu thập từ các trạng thái và bình luận trên Facebook của một nhóm người dùng song ngữ. Sau đó, dữ liệu được tiền xử lý để loại bỏ các lỗi chính tả và chuẩn hóa ngôn ngữ. Tiếp theo, các trường hợp chuyển ngữ được xác định và phân loại theo loại (intra-sentential, inter-sentential, tag switching) dựa trên thuyết chuyển ngữ của Poplack (1980). Cuối cùng, các yếu tố ảnh hưởng đến tần suất chuyển ngữ và mục đích chuyển ngữ được phân tích bằng phương pháp định tính và định lượng. Nghiên cứu cũng xem xét ảnh hưởng của chuyển ngữ đến phong cách giao tiếp trực tuyến.

3.1. Thu thập và Xử lý Dữ liệu Ngôn ngữ Facebook

Quá trình thu thập dữ liệu bao gồm việc thu thập các bài đăng và bình luận công khai từ người dùng song ngữ Anh-Việt trên Facebook. Dữ liệu được thu thập phải tuân thủ các nguyên tắc đạo đức nghiên cứu, bảo vệ quyền riêng tư của người tham gia. Sau khi thu thập, dữ liệu được làm sạch bằng cách loại bỏ các ký tự đặc biệt, sửa lỗi chính tả và chuẩn hóa các từ viết tắt. Công cụ xử lý ngôn ngữ tự nhiên (NLP) có thể được sử dụng để hỗ trợ quá trình này.

3.2. Phân loại và Phân tích các Loại Chuyển ngữ

Các trường hợp chuyển ngữ được phân loại theo các loại hình chính, bao gồm intra-sentential (trong câu), inter-sentential (giữa câu) và tag switching (gắn thẻ). IV. Kết quả Nghiên cứu Chuyển ngữ Facebook và Ứng dụng

Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy chuyển ngữ là một hiện tượng phổ biến trên Facebook của người dùng song ngữ Anh-Việt. Loại chuyển ngữ phổ biến nhất là intra-sentential, cho thấy người dùng thường xuyên pha trộn hai ngôn ngữ trong cùng một câu. V. Kết luận và Hướng Nghiên cứu Chuyển ngữ Facebook Tương lai

Nghiên cứu chuyển ngữ Facebook của người dùng song ngữ Anh-Việt cung cấp những hiểu biết sâu sắc về sự phức tạp của ngôn ngữ trên mạng xã hội. Code-switching không chỉ là một hiện tượng ngôn ngữ mà còn là một phần của bản sắc ngôn ngữ và văn hóa trực tuyến. Các nghiên cứu trong tương lai có thể tập trung vào việc khám phá ảnh hưởng của chuyển ngữ đến nhận thức của người nghe, tác động của mã ngôn ngữ đến phong cách giao tiếp trực tuyến, và vai trò của chuyển ngữ trong việc duy trì identities song ngữ. Nghiên cứu cũng nên mở rộng phạm vi để bao gồm các nền tảng mạng xã hội khác và các cặp ngôn ngữ khác nhau.

5.1. Tổng kết về Hiện tượng Chuyển ngữ và Tầm quan trọng

Chuyển ngữ là một hiện tượng tự nhiên và phổ biến trong môi trường giao tiếp trực tuyến của người dùng song ngữ. Nó đóng vai trò quan trọng trong việc diễn đạt ý nghĩa, thể hiện bản sắc, và tạo sự kết nối giữa những người dùng. Nghiên cứu chuyển ngữ giúp chúng ta hiểu rõ hơn về sự đa dạng và linh hoạt của ngôn ngữ trong thế giới số.

Các nghiên cứu trong tương lai có thể tập trung vào các khía cạnh sau: (1) Ảnh hưởng của chuyển ngữ đến khả năng hiểu và đánh giá của người nghe. (2) So sánh chuyển ngữ trên các nền tảng mạng xã hội khác nhau. (3) Nghiên cứu chuyển ngữ giữa các cặp ngôn ngữ khác. (4) Phát triển các mô hình tính toán để dự đoán và phân tích chuyển ngữ.

One of the most interesting phenomena is that bilingual speakers usually tend to switch some words or phrases from one language to another during conversation or written form, which is called code-switching. This research looks at the status updates and comments which contain tokens of code switching and are published on Facebook site of its users in the author‟s friend list.

The thesis aims to investigate the types of and reasons for code-switching found in conversations between the participants, using the typology suggested by Poplack (1980) and reasons proposed by Malik (1994). RATIONALE English which is widely considered the international language and spoken by innumerable people has become the primary communication tool for many purposes. The ISO 3166-1 code lists 83 countries and regions with English as "official language".

At present, up to 1.8 billion people around the world speak English, thus it is the most widely used "second" and "learning" language in the world used for international communication in various fields like aviation, business, internet, science and technology to name only some. Therefore, learning English is now becoming more popular than ever before in Vietnam. One of the most interesting things to note is that for people who know English, especially those studying, living abroad or using different languages other than their mother tongue have a tendency to mix the two languages, i. English and Vietnamese, in conversation as well as in written contexts.

Code-switching, the practice of moving back and forth between two languages or between two dialects or registers of the same language, therefore is inevitable and sometimes unconscious, especially when people, especially youngsters, join social networks. For example, it is not surprising to see a status update on Facebook which contains switched words, phrases, or sentences. Moreover, the frequency of finding code-switching practice on Facebook sites is quite high and the influence of language use on Facebook users is becoming much greater. Therefore, this thesis aims to provide some background knowledge about the patterns of code switching used on Facebook, the reasons why bilinguals code-switch and lay foundation for further studies.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Nowadays, when English is required as a second language in our society, Code Switching occurs in every field of daily life: from daily conversation to news, interview, discussion on television, on radio as well as newspapers, magazines and so on. The special phenomenon had been previously researched as the matter of bilingualism. To investigate the reasons for code-switching. RESEARCH QUESTIONS The study aims at seeking answers to the following questions: 1. What are the types of code-switching in bilinguals‟ Facebook status updates and comments? 2. What are the reasons for the use of code-switching in general and specific instances? 1.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY Sociolinguistics studies the relationship between language and society. They are interested in explaining why people speak differently in different social contexts, and concerned with identifying the social functions of language and the way it is used to convey social meaning. Examining the way people use language in different social contexts provides a wealth of relationships in a community and the way people signal aspects of their social identity through their language. Moreover, in a bilingual or multilingual society, it is normal for people to be in the situation where a change between two or more languages has to be made.

That phenomenon is called code-switching. For bilingual speakers, code-switching is a valuable tool for various reasons. The alternation between two languages in the form code switching is widely observed in many settings and in many speech communities. However, it is an under-researched and rather new issue on Facebook which the paper attempts to look into.

Thus, once completed, its outcome may offer benefits to entities involved, namely English-Vietnamese bilinguals, linguists and teachers in general; and Facebook users who are in favor of code-switching, in particular. This study partly helps them to get better understanding of code switching, the phenomenon that they often use but have little idea about. Moreover, the study helps find out the practice of switching between the two languages Vietnamese and English, how these users employ code switching mechanism to organize, enhance and smoothen their writings. It is important as bilinguals will then be aware of the phenomenon that may occur during online communication via social net-working websites such as Facebook. SCOPE OF THE STUDY This study focuses on the phenomenon of code-switching used on Facebook sites of ten bilinguals in the author‟s friend list. Although there are several applications for Facebook users to communicate on this social network such as private and public message, status, comment, note, chat, voice and video call and so on, some of them are hard to elicit. As a result, only status updates and comments have been taken into consideration, which means this work only examines patterns of code- switching in written form.

OUTLINE OF THE THESIS The rest of the study consists of four chapters which are as follows. Chapter two, Theoretical Background, reviews prominent literature directly relevant to the topic being discussed. Chapter three, Methodology, presents the methods used for data collection and data analysis as well as justification for these methods. Chapter three is followed by the fourth chapter, Results and Discussion, in which the findings of the study are discussed to answer the research questions.
