Zone of Proximal Development (McLeod, 2019). The conceptual framework of the study.««ss«<«2 31 xH ABSTRACT This study was an attempt to investigate the effects of using project- based learning to develop the tenth graders’ speaking skill at Vo Van Kiet High School as well as their attitudes towards learning speaking skill through it. The study was mainly carried out by using a quasi-experimental research design, particularly, a nonequivalent pre-test and post-test control-group one. Specifically, it was conducted on 90 tenth-grade students studying at Vo Van Kiet High School during the second semester of the school year 2019-2020.
The instruments used for collecting and analyzing data were a pre- and post- test to examine whether project-based learning had a positive influence on the students’ speaking performance, and a questionnaire after the treatment to measure their attitudes of project work towards the development of their speaking skill. The results gained from the two tests and the questionnaire were analyzed by using SPSS 20 and clearly presented in tables. Research findings show that the students’ speaking skill is significantly improved after the projects. The results obtained from the research also reveal that they express their positive attitudes towards learning speaking skill through project-based learning.
This information helped to support the research objectives and the study is expected to be useful for further research in the future. Keywords: Project-based learning, speaking — skill, speaking performance, attitude CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION This chapter provides the introduction of the study by presenting the background to the study, statement of the problem, aim of the study and research questions, significance of the study, and the overall structure of the study.
