However, as our environment changes, so does the need to become increasingly aware of the problems that surround it.
With a massive series of the hottest issues in recent years such as pollution, soil degradation, global warming, polar ice melt, depletion of natural resources, and much more. This leads to disasters of sea-level rise, floods, and erratic weather occurring in many places and so on. As we all know, the human factor plays a great influence on current environmental problems because the needs and benefits of life are increasing. People need to be aware of the kinds of environmental problems our planet is facing.
We are in a state of planetary emergency, with environmental problems piling up high around us. Unless we address the various issues prudently and seriously, we are surely doomed for disaster. Current environmental problems also require urgent attention. In the world Every year, about 7 million people worldwide die as a result of air pollution mainly from stroke, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, and acute respiratory infections.
The WHO report said that more than 80% of people living in urban areas suffer from air pollution with the dust quality in the air exceeding the permitted limit of WHO. The low-income and middle-income countries suffer the highest levels of pollution, both indoors and outdoors. Not only air pollution, water pollution but also the marine environment is always at an alarming level. According to the information from the United Nations, in 2018, more than 80% of the world's wastewater discharged into the natural environment without treatment.
According to the information from National Geographic, in developing countries, 70% of industrial waste discharged into the aquatic environment without treatment has polluted the usable water supply. Even in some underdeveloped countries, this figure goes up to 95%. In Viet Nam According to Green ID, air pollution is serious in urban areas. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) reports that traffic activities cause about 70% of air pollution, particularly in Hanoi.
The World Bank estimates that about 90% of domestic wastewater in urban Vietnam is not treated before being discharged into the environment. Currently, about 20% of households nationwide have to use contaminated water from lakes, ponds, and canals. In addition, the amount of waste and plastic packaging brought to the landfill every week is always alarming. In Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh alone, an average of 80 billion tons of plastic 1s produced each day.

Pollution alarming numbers 2. The reason for choosing this topic Travel is always a passion, an endless source of passion for the vast majority of people. This is considered a form to balance life, relieve stress after days and hours of work and study.
Of course, to travel to a place, whether far or near, everyone must find a convenient place to rest. Along with working together to protect the environment of each individual, today's travelers are searching for and applying all possible items which can recycle and protect the environment. The environment has been one of the most important factors that have been taken into consideration while traveling by many people over the years. The hospitality business is considered one of the potential smokeless industries.
The career opportunities of this industry in the future correspond to the growth potential of the industry. Hotel managers around the world realize that doing well on environmental and social issues will bring benefits to the hospitality business, for the environment, and for the community, from saving energy to ensure the environment at the destination. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to solutions to manage environmental problems in the hospitality business. Towards the goal of sustainable tourism development for accommodation, environmental protection is one of the tasks set in the current period.
The hotel tourism environment in a broad sense is "natural, socio-economic and human factors in which tourism activities exist and develop". Tourism activities have a close relationship with the environment, exploiting the characteristics of the environment for development purposes and contributing to change the environmental characteristics. The combination of providing comfort services, attentive care, and also contributing to preserving the green of the Earth helps the hotels and resorts attract more tourists not only domestically but also internationally. We choose Sheraton Ha Noi hotel to analyze this topic because Sheraton Ha Noi is the first hotel to complete the assessment and certification for environmental management ISO 14001: 2004, is one of the green hotels of Vietnam and the region.
(ISO 14000 is a set of environmental management standards issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to help organizations and businesses reduce their harmful environmental impacts and regularly improve their performance environmental impact.) Some awards and achievements about "green" hotel that this hotel has achieved. Sheraton Hanoi Hotel was awarded the first prize in the Northern region in the third "Energy-saving building” contest, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in 2009. On January 9, at the competition "Energy management in industry and buildings" and "Energy-efficient buildings” organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Sheraton Hanoi Hotel was honored to receive the First Prize for the category "Building Energy Efficiency Manager 2010”. Sheraton Hanoi Hotel has been certified by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism to achieve the criteria of the level 5 green Lotus eco-tourism label.
CHAPTER 1: Overview of Hotel 1. Overview of hotel 1. History of establishment and development Marriott International Marriott was founded by John Willard Marriott in 1927 when he and his wife, Alice Sheets Marriott, originally opened only one orginal brasserie in Washington, DC. Marriott decided to scale up when they established a restaurant chain called Hot Shoppes during America's most degrading period from 1929 to 1932.
Marriott's decision to expand was arguably brave and equally reckless, yet he was successful in business during this period. Until 1932, he had a chain of 7 stores serving food and beverage with completely special menus. In 1937, realizing the needs of passengers traveling on newly opened airlines, he seized the opportunity to quickly open a catering company on flights. Then came government contracts for military cafes, and then deals to feed factories, including General Motors and Ford, that helped Marriott grow rapidly.
A major turning point came in 1957 when the first Marriott hotel was opened. At that time, Bill Marriott - son of John Willard Marriott started to participate in the family business. It was Bill who saw the potential in the hotel business and suggested expansion. With his bold decisions, Marriott's father and son have achieved success after success.
In 1967, when the hospitality sector dominated the business, Hot Shoppes Inc was renamed Marriott Corporation. In 1969, Marriott opened its first international hotel in Acapulco, Mexico. The year 1980 marked the next turning pomt, the company realized that the road ahead would be narrowed if only peace of mind stopped at the segment of high-class hotels with full-service services. Since then, John Marriott began to research the idea of building other rental models that include many rates for all social classes.
In 1984, the first JW Marriott branded hotel was born in Washington, DC, after its founder J. First JW Marriott hotel. Marriott International was established in 1993 when Marriott Corporation split into two companies, Marriott International and Host Marriott Corporation. In 1997, Marriott International acquired a 49% stake in The Ritz-Carlton.
This is a must-have brand and marks Marriott Group's new development. As of now, The Ritz-Carlton has 81 branch hotels around the world. After that, Marriott continuously launched hotels of different brands. In 2004, the first Bulgari Hotels & Resorts opened in Milan, Italy.
