I. Khám Phá Tổng Quan Về Âm Vị Học Trong Phần Nghe TOEIC

Âm vị học đóng vai trò quan trọng trong việc phát triển kỹ năng nghe của học sinh sơ cấp. Nghiên cứu này sẽ chỉ ra những vấn đề âm vị học mà học sinh thường gặp phải trong phần nghe của bài thi TOEIC. Việc hiểu rõ âm vị học sẽ giúp học sinh cải thiện khả năng nghe và giao tiếp tiếng Anh hiệu quả hơn.

1.1. Định Nghĩa Âm Vị Học Và Tầm Quan Trọng Của Nó

Âm vị học là lĩnh vực nghiên cứu về âm thanh trong ngôn ngữ. Nó giúp người học nhận diện và phân tích các âm thanh, từ đó cải thiện khả năng nghe. Theo Hyman (1975), âm vị học là 'nghiên cứu về hệ thống âm thanh'.

1.2. Mối Liên Hệ Giữa Âm Vị Học Và Kỹ Năng Nghe

Kỹ năng nghe không chỉ đơn thuần là khả năng nghe mà còn bao gồm việc hiểu và phân tích âm thanh. Việc nắm vững âm vị học giúp học sinh nhận diện được các âm thanh khác nhau trong tiếng Anh, từ đó cải thiện khả năng nghe của họ.

II. Những Thách Thức Âm Vị Học Mà Học Sinh Sơ Cấp Gặp Phải Trong TOEIC

Học sinh sơ cấp thường gặp nhiều khó khăn trong phần nghe TOEIC do các vấn đề âm vị học. Những thách thức này có thể ảnh hưởng đến khả năng hiểu và giao tiếp của họ trong tiếng Anh.

2.1. Khó Khăn Trong Việc Nhận Diện Âm Thanh

Nhiều học sinh gặp khó khăn trong việc phân biệt các âm thanh tương tự nhau, điều này dẫn đến việc hiểu sai thông tin trong phần nghe. Các âm như /b/ và /p/ thường gây nhầm lẫn cho học sinh.

2.2. Vấn Đề Về Ngữ Điệu Và Nhấn Âm

Ngữ điệu và nhấn âm là những yếu tố quan trọng trong việc hiểu nghĩa của câu. Học sinh sơ cấp thường không quen với cách nhấn âm và ngữ điệu trong tiếng Anh, dẫn đến việc họ không hiểu được ý nghĩa của câu nói.

III. Phương Pháp Giải Quyết Vấn Đề Âm Vị Học Trong Nghe TOEIC

Để cải thiện khả năng nghe, học sinh cần áp dụng các phương pháp học tập hiệu quả. Những phương pháp này sẽ giúp họ vượt qua các thách thức âm vị học trong phần nghe TOEIC.

3.1. Chiến Lược Luyện Nghe Hiệu Quả

Học sinh nên luyện nghe thường xuyên với các tài liệu phù hợp. Việc nghe các đoạn hội thoại ngắn và các bài nói sẽ giúp họ làm quen với âm thanh và ngữ điệu trong tiếng Anh.

3.2. Kỹ Thuật Nhận Diện Âm Thanh

Sử dụng các bài tập phân biệt âm thanh và luyện tập với các cặp âm tương tự sẽ giúp học sinh cải thiện khả năng nhận diện âm thanh. Việc này có thể được thực hiện thông qua các trò chơi và bài tập tương tác.

IV. Ứng Dụng Thực Tiễn Của Nghiên Cứu Về Âm Vị Học Trong TOEIC

Nghiên cứu này không chỉ giúp học sinh nhận diện các vấn đề âm vị học mà còn cung cấp các giải pháp thực tiễn để cải thiện kỹ năng nghe của họ trong bài thi TOEIC.

4.1. Kết Quả Nghiên Cứu Từ Khảo Sát

Khảo sát cho thấy rằng phần lớn học sinh gặp khó khăn trong việc nhận diện âm thanh và ngữ điệu. Những kết quả này cho thấy sự cần thiết phải cải thiện phương pháp giảng dạy âm vị học.

4.2. Đề Xuất Tài Liệu Luyện Nghe TOEIC

Các tài liệu luyện nghe TOEIC nên được thiết kế để giúp học sinh làm quen với các âm thanh và ngữ điệu trong tiếng Anh. Việc sử dụng các bài nghe thực tế sẽ giúp học sinh cải thiện khả năng nghe của họ.

V. Kết Luận Về Vấn Đề Âm Vị Học Trong Nghe TOEIC

Nghiên cứu về âm vị học trong phần nghe TOEIC cho thấy rằng việc hiểu và áp dụng âm vị học là rất quan trọng đối với học sinh sơ cấp. Những thách thức mà họ gặp phải có thể được giải quyết thông qua các phương pháp học tập hiệu quả.

5.1. Tương Lai Của Nghiên Cứu Âm Vị Học

Nghiên cứu âm vị học sẽ tiếp tục đóng vai trò quan trọng trong việc cải thiện kỹ năng nghe của học sinh. Các phương pháp mới sẽ được phát triển để giúp học sinh vượt qua các thách thức trong phần nghe TOEIC.

5.2. Khuyến Nghị Cho Các Nghiên Cứu Tương Lai

Cần có thêm nhiều nghiên cứu về âm vị học và kỹ năng nghe để tìm ra các phương pháp giảng dạy hiệu quả hơn. Việc này sẽ giúp học sinh cải thiện khả năng nghe và giao tiếp tiếng Anh trong tương lai.

In the recent years, Vietnamese students have considered TOEIC as a key to find a good job, get promotion or study abroad however they still find it difficult to be good at listening section in TOEIC because of some linguistic obstacles. Rationale: In the era of globalization, using a foreign language fluently can help people have more chances to approach society‟s progress. Among foreign languages, English is the most popular language and is spoken all over the world. English is not only an international language in politics, external affairs and economy, but it is also used in international scientific activities. English is actually a means of effective communication which connects people around the world closer and closer. As the requirements of the new era, Vietnamese young generations have to adapt to the new trend of the world by studying and using English. In the recent years, studying and teaching English in Vietnam are more and more developed. The appearances of international English tests like TOEFL, IELTS and TOEIC really help Vietnamese students to approach the development of the world. Among international English tests, TOEIC is applied in many universities, colleges and English centers in Vietnam. Although TOEIC is very popular with many people all over the world, Vietnamese students still have to face with many problems in studying, especially the listening section in TOEIC. As an ESL teacher at a center in Binh Thanh district in Ho Chi Minh City, my duty includes teaching the TOEIC for students. After more than three years of teaching, I have found that students here have to encounter with some difficulties in listening such as the lack of vocabulary, the speakers‟ pronunciation, the linking of words, the intonation and the speed of native speakers. The cause of these problems comes from their habits of studying English at high school. Firstly, at high school, the English studying curriculum focuses more on reading and grammar, and students rarely 1 LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add [e-mail] approach to listening and speaking skills. Secondly, at young age, English in their awareness is not as important as other subjects so they concern more on mathematic, physics and chemistry. Lastly, the English they studied at high school primarily concentrates on British English of which the pronunciation, accent, liaison, intonation, vocabulary and grammar are sometimes different from what they learn and prepare for TOEIC tests. For these reasons, I would like to conduct my research “AN INVESTIGATION INTO PHONOLOGY PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED BY BEGINNER STUDENTS IN TOEIC LISTENING SECTION”. My thesis will seek the phonetic and phonological difficulties that students meet in TOEIC listening process in order to find out some techniques to improve their listening ability. Aims and Objectives of the study: My study is conducted with these main purposes: - To explore the students‟ perceptions of the TOEIC listening test - To investigate what phonology problems beginner students meet in the TOEIC listening process. - To suggest some suitable activities to help students overcome them. Research questions: The research is conducted to answer 2 following questions: 1. What are the students‟ attitudes and perceptions to TOEIC listening section? 2. Scope of the study This study focuses on some phonology problems that beginner students at the center in Binh Thanh district often meet in TOEIC listening section. These problems will be identified through the result of the questionnaire and the interview. The researcher also suggests some useful techniques and solutions for these ones. Method of the study This study is a case study which used the interview and the survey questionnaire to collect data. The questionnaire was designed to find out the students‟ attitudes toward the listening TOEIC section and their difficulties regarding to phonetics & phonology in their listening process. Besides, this study also contained the interview from students and teachers in order to ensure the validity and the reliability of the data. Organization of the study To achieve the aims of the study, this paper is divided into three main parts. They are INTRODUCTION, DEVELOPMENT, and CONCLUSION. INTRODUCTION includes the reasons of choosing the thesis, the aims, the scope, the research questions, the methods and the organization of the study. DEVELOPMENT consists 3 chapters. Chapter 1 presents the theoretical background relevant to the research. Firstly, some basic concepts of phonetics, phonology, listening and the TOEIC listening test are introduced.
