The number of countries coming to our country to invest in economics, military, health, and sports is increasing, so it 1s especially important for someone to be able to act as a bridge for other countries to understand our country and that person is called an interpreter. An interpreter requires professional training.
Therefore, interpretation is a compulsory subject in the 6th semester of students majoring in English at Ho Chi Minh City University City of Industry and Trade. Interpretation course that 1s specialized in training in-depth on translation skills, but mainly to consolidate knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, besides, provides skills as the basis of translation through translation practice of real documents. Learners are required Prepare carefully for translation exercises and actively participate in discussions translation direction. Through the course, the author group.
Noticed m addition to improvements in skills translation, students also encounter a number of problems during communication message from English to Vietnamese and vice versa again. For that reason, the authors have developed conduct this research with the hope of analyzing and synthesizing common errors in the student's learning process, thereby suggesting for staff teach an approach leamer and the focus of learning in a reasonable way and more realistic. An interpreter plays a very important role in facilitating communication and understanding between different countries and cultures. Interpreters need to have a high level of proficiency in both the source and target languages, as well as the ability to convey the meaning, tone, and intention of the speaker accurately and faithfully.
Interpreters also need to be aware of the cultural and social contexts of 1 both parties and avoid any misunderstandings or misinterpretations that could cause confusion or offense. Interpreting is a challenging and rewarding profession that requires a lot of skills, knowledge, and experience. Becoming an interpreter requires basic and necessary skills that require training which is why students must study the subject of interpretation at HUIT. Students learn and practice mterpreting sessions.
During the learning process, there will be difficulties that students of the Department of Languages at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade faced in the 6" Semester. My graduate research would like to present the difficulties in learning theory and practice of Interpretation from the students of the Department of Languages at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade.2 Aim and objectives of the study 1.1 Aim of the study In teaching and learning Foreign Languages, Interpretation is a comprehensive subject, requiring learners to have higher level language practice skills. Knowledge of phonetics, grammar, vocabulary, thinking ability, synthesis ability, social knowledge, living capital are always important factors in the translation process. The main aim of this study is to help students recognize their own weaknesses and strengths, thereby helping students be confident and improve the necessary skills of the subject of interpretation.
This research aims the difficulty and find the solutions to help students learn the subject of interpretation better. Studying mterpretation well help students improve necessary social skills such as confidence, behavioral ability, and information reflection. This research help students know and improve their own weaknesses. This not only helps students learn Interpretation well in class but also adds knowledge so that students have more confidence, knowledge, and experience to be able to pursue becoming an interpreter.2 Objectives of the topic The main purpose of this research is to find out the problems that HUIT students encounter when learning Interpretation thanks to opinions from students and then to compile statistics on the problems that students encounter.
This research article will help students understand those difficulties and provide solutions to help students overcome them. This research helps students improve their skills and learn more about interpretation is the topic “INVESTIGATING CHALLENGES IN LEARNING INTERPRETATION FACED BY STUDENTS AT HO CHI MINH UNIVERSITY OF IDUSTRY AND TRADE”’ was chosen for research. Being good at English and being able to translate well is an important key. The great advantage to have many career advancement opportunities.
With the integration of the present world, of course, domestic and foreign companies or organizations both need or prioritize people with high English proficiency and students can have a better life based on the accumulated knowledge and experience. The scope of topic The target audience of the researchers is students at the University of Industry and Trade. The research method is to create a questionnaire and collect answers from students at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade. The data collection period starts from October 11 to November 11.
It includes 100 random students from interpreting classes.4 Research questions The research questions posed are: What problems do HUIT students encounter when studying Interpretation? What are some strategies that HUIT students employ to overcome difficulties when studying Interpretation? 1.5 Significance of the study The research surveys and analyzes the difficult factors that students at the University of Industry and Trade encounter. Then , The research offers plans and solutions to help students overcome difficulties. This research helps students understand the problems they encounter and teachers also understand the problems their students are encountering, thereby helping students and teachers understand each other better. Teachers can find solutions to help students feel comfortable at the beginning of class.
Students can be more confident when starting class. Finally, thanks to the research, students will learn better and easily absorb knowledge from teachers and can then use this knowledge in life or work. Organization The subsequent chapters of this research are structured as follows: Chaper |: Introduce and describe the purpose and scope of the research Chapter 2: An overview of Interpretation, including standards and techniques of Interpretation. Chapter 3: An overview of research methods, analysis, and data collection.
Chapter 4: Research and evaluation of HUIT students’ difficulties when studying Interpretation. Chapter 5: Discussions and recommendations based on the findings. At the end of this study, readers will have an understanding of the difficult issues involved in Interpretation. Chapter two LITERATURE REVIEW 2.
Theoretical basis Before finding out the basic mistakes that students often encounter in translation, we will learn what a good and complete translation is. Translation is a language processing process that requires literary skills, vocabulary knowledge, life experience, and also requires intelligence and creativity. Only good translations can be produced (written translation) and communication purposes can be achieved (oral translation).1 The importance of a good translation 2.1 Evaluation of a good translation A good translation must convey all the ideas of the original text as well as the structural and cultural characteristics of the original text. Massoud (1988) sets out the following criteria for a good translation: A good translation is one that is easy to understand, concise and fluent, uses common phrases or idioms.
A good translation conveys, to some extent, the sophistication of the original text. That is able to distinguish between metaphorical language and literary language and can reconstruct the cultural/historical context of the original text. A good translation is one that conveys as much as possible of the meaning of the original text and clearly translates abbreviations, and common words, phrases, songs, and rhymes. Language expert El Shafey (1985,p93) offers other criteria for a good translation, including three main principles: Knowledge of the grammar of the source language plus knowledge of vocabulary, as well as a good understanding of the text to be translated.
