Background of study The twenty-first century began with technological discovery, with the Internet rapidly expanding around the world.
In recent years, the Internet has evolved from a networking medium to a global mode of consumer transportation. The Internet has evolved fast in recent years, becoming a common medium of information sharing, service, and trade. According to AcNielsen (2007), more than 627 million consumers worldwide shopped online in 2006. Furthermore, Forrester (2006) anticipated that E-commerce would grow from $228 billion in 2007 to $288 billion in 2009.
Because of the rise of the internet, online purchasing is critical for the digital age and provides numerous benefits for both information search and the purchasing process (Rose & Samouel, 2009). On the one hand, the benefits of the online platform can be taken advantage of with the quick development of online technology by creating the proper shopping tools. Additionally, with the recent pandemic that has affected the entire world, online buying has become a simpler way for everyone to access their shopping with a single mouse click. The process of purchasing goods and services over the Internet is known as online shopping.
People utilize the internet to make purchases, arrange deliveries, and access online shopping sites. Upon delivery of the products and services, the customer typically pays with a credit or debit card, a third-party online transfer, or cash. Online purchasing has become more common in recent years, largely because consumers value its usefulness, convenience, ease of use, and ability to save money, time, and effort. Online shopping has also influenced the behaviors of students in this generation.
Due to time constraints, traffic, crowds, and other factors, online shopping has steadily taken the place of physical shopping. Due to its accessibility in daily living, online shopping is growing in popularity. Hence, Online shopping is growing in popularity because it is accessible to everyone. Online shopping provides many advantages over physical shopping in terms of saving money, time, and effort for consumers (Liu et al., 2012; Kim et al.
We believe that these benefits have a major impact on customer behavior when it comes to online buying (Delafrooz et al. Online shopping, on the other hand, needed more user intention than physical purchases (Chowdhury & Ahmad, 2012). Although the online buying business is rapidly 10 developing, there are several disadvantages to traditional shopping that have surfaced. The lack of visual contact or physical presence of the goods among consumers is a highly dominant aspect in online shopping and inhibits techniques of online shopping (Lim et al.
According to VNETWORK's 2020 statistics as an information technology company, there are currently 68.17 million people in Vietnam using internet services in January 2020. From 2019 to 2020, the total number of people using Internet-related services in Vietnam increased by approximately 6. Furthermore, the situation of Internet use in Vietnam as a percentage of the total population As of January 2020, the Vietnamese population stands at 70% (Vnetwork. With the advancement of technology, today's young people can conduct transactions at any time and from any location using simple computer or phone operations.
With up to 72% of Vietnamese people owning a smartphone, the country is primed for the growth of e-commerce platforms. Card payment is also a new consumer trend today, with 62% of customers under the age of 35 commonly using bank cards and affiliate cards for online purchases. The online shopping system is becoming more scientifically organized, so transaction activities are becoming more exciting, and the online shopping system is growing in size and quality. Young people, particularly students of Gen Z, are becoming increasingly interested in this type of trading.
Young individuals born after 1995 are referred to as Gen Z (Lanier, 2017). They make up 33% of the global population and 21% of the Vietnamese population (Nguyen et al. They favor advertisements that depict real people in real-life settings (Levin, 2020). They can spend hours on social media and watching internet videos, but they can't sit through advertisements, even if they're just 30 seconds long.
According to the study, Gen Z customers dominate internet commerce (Arilaha et al. According to Brown (2017), 67% of Gen Z use mobile phones to pay for in-store internet orders. Furthermore, many of them own a smartphone solely for internet shopping (Gentina, 2019). This data on the appeal of online purchasing for Gen Z clients is vast and fast expanding (Ao & Nguyen, 2020).
In worldwide marketplaces, including Vietnam, Generation Z was growing in size and dominance. Although Gen Z student's online purchasing behavior has been extensively researched in developed nations, there have been few studies in developing countries such as 11 Vietnam, where online shopping is growing increasingly popular among university students. Furthermore, Gen Z students are constantly at the forefront of rapidly adopting and comprehending new technology. Furthermore, in order to comprehend Gen Z students' purchasing habits, it is vital to determine the elements that influence their online shopping habits.
