I. Tổng quan về ẩn dụ cuộc sống trong truyện ngắn Mỹ và Việt

Nghiên cứu ẩn dụ về cuộc sống trong truyện ngắn Mỹ và Việt từ 1975 đến 1991 mang lại cái nhìn sâu sắc về cách mà các tác giả thể hiện những khía cạnh khác nhau của cuộc sống. Ẩn dụ không chỉ là một công cụ ngôn ngữ mà còn là một phương tiện để truyền tải cảm xúc và ý nghĩa sâu sắc. Qua các tác phẩm, người đọc có thể nhận thấy sự tương đồng và khác biệt trong cách mà hai nền văn hóa này diễn đạt khái niệm cuộc sống.

1.1. Khái niệm ẩn dụ trong văn học

Ẩn dụ trong văn học được hiểu là cách mà một khái niệm trừu tượng được diễn đạt thông qua một khái niệm cụ thể hơn. Điều này giúp người đọc dễ dàng hình dung và cảm nhận hơn về cuộc sống.

1.2. Tầm quan trọng của ẩn dụ trong truyện ngắn

Ẩn dụ không chỉ làm phong phú thêm ngôn ngữ mà còn giúp tác giả truyền tải thông điệp một cách tinh tế. Trong truyện ngắn, ẩn dụ thường được sử dụng để thể hiện những cảm xúc phức tạp và những tình huống sống động.

II. Vấn đề và thách thức trong nghiên cứu ẩn dụ cuộc sống

Nghiên cứu ẩn dụ về cuộc sống trong văn học Mỹ và Việt từ 1975 đến 1991 đối mặt với nhiều thách thức. Một trong những vấn đề chính là sự khác biệt về văn hóa và ngôn ngữ giữa hai nền văn học. Điều này có thể dẫn đến những hiểu lầm trong việc diễn giải các ẩn dụ.

2.1. Khác biệt văn hóa trong ẩn dụ

Mỗi nền văn hóa có cách nhìn nhận và diễn đạt cuộc sống khác nhau. Những ẩn dụ trong văn học Mỹ có thể không hoàn toàn tương đồng với những ẩn dụ trong văn học Việt, dẫn đến sự khó khăn trong việc so sánh.

2.2. Thách thức trong việc dịch ẩn dụ

Việc dịch các ẩn dụ từ một ngôn ngữ sang ngôn ngữ khác không chỉ đơn thuần là chuyển đổi từ ngữ mà còn là việc truyền tải ý nghĩa và cảm xúc. Điều này đòi hỏi người dịch phải có sự hiểu biết sâu sắc về cả hai nền văn hóa.

III. Phương pháp nghiên cứu ẩn dụ trong truyện ngắn

Để nghiên cứu ẩn dụ về cuộc sống trong truyện ngắn Mỹ và Việt, các phương pháp phân tích định tính và định lượng được áp dụng. Phân tích định tính giúp hiểu sâu về ngữ cảnh và ý nghĩa của các ẩn dụ, trong khi phân tích định lượng cung cấp dữ liệu cụ thể về tần suất sử dụng.

3.1. Phân tích định tính các ẩn dụ

Phân tích định tính cho phép nghiên cứu sâu vào cách mà các tác giả sử dụng ẩn dụ để thể hiện cảm xúc và ý nghĩa. Điều này giúp làm rõ hơn về cách mà cuộc sống được diễn đạt trong các tác phẩm.

3.2. Phân tích định lượng tần suất ẩn dụ

Phân tích định lượng giúp xác định tần suất xuất hiện của các ẩn dụ trong các tác phẩm. Điều này cung cấp cái nhìn tổng quan về mức độ phổ biến của các ẩn dụ trong văn học Mỹ và Việt.

IV. Kết quả nghiên cứu ẩn dụ về cuộc sống

Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy có nhiều điểm tương đồng và khác biệt trong cách mà ẩn dụ về cuộc sống được sử dụng trong truyện ngắn Mỹ và Việt. Những ẩn dụ phổ biến như 'cuộc sống là một hành trình' hay 'cuộc sống là một trò chơi' xuất hiện trong cả hai nền văn học, nhưng với những sắc thái khác nhau.

4.1. Tương đồng trong ẩn dụ cuộc sống

Cả hai nền văn học đều sử dụng những ẩn dụ như 'cuộc sống là một hành trình' để thể hiện những khó khăn và thử thách mà con người phải đối mặt. Điều này cho thấy sự tương đồng trong cách nhìn nhận cuộc sống.

4.2. Khác biệt trong cách diễn đạt ẩn dụ

Mặc dù có những ẩn dụ tương đồng, nhưng cách diễn đạt và ngữ cảnh sử dụng lại khác nhau. Văn học Mỹ thường mang tính hiện đại và phức tạp hơn, trong khi văn học Việt thường thể hiện sự giản dị và gần gũi.

V. Kết luận và triển vọng nghiên cứu ẩn dụ

Nghiên cứu ẩn dụ về cuộc sống trong truyện ngắn Mỹ và Việt từ 1975 đến 1991 không chỉ giúp hiểu rõ hơn về văn hóa và tư tưởng của hai nền văn học mà còn mở ra hướng nghiên cứu mới cho các tác phẩm khác. Việc tiếp tục nghiên cứu sẽ giúp làm phong phú thêm kiến thức về ngôn ngữ và văn hóa.

5.1. Ý nghĩa của nghiên cứu ẩn dụ

Nghiên cứu ẩn dụ không chỉ giúp hiểu rõ hơn về văn học mà còn có thể áp dụng trong giảng dạy và dịch thuật. Điều này giúp nâng cao khả năng giao tiếp và hiểu biết văn hóa giữa các nền văn học.

5.2. Hướng nghiên cứu tương lai

Nghiên cứu có thể mở rộng ra các thể loại văn học khác hoặc các giai đoạn lịch sử khác. Điều này sẽ giúp làm rõ hơn về sự phát triển của ẩn dụ trong văn học và ảnh hưởng của nó đến xã hội.

Traditionally, metaphor was viewed as a matter of language, as a set of extraordinary or figurative linguistic expressions only used in literature with the aim to embellish discourse. However, cognitive linguistics presents a different view of metaphor, stating that metaphor, in its broad sense, is pervasive and essential in language and thought. It is defined as understanding one abstract conceptual domain (target domain), in terms of another concrete conceptual domain (source domain). The concept of life has been one of the most common target domains, which is hard to fully comprehend without establishing a set of mappings, i.

a set of systematic correspondences, between this undelineated notion and other better-known one. Therefore, this study attempts to probe into conceptual metaphors denoting life in American and Vietnamese short stories from 1975 to 1991 from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. Rationale of the study Cognitive linguistics is the approach to the study of language that began to emerge in the 1970s and has been increasingly active since the 1980s.

Until now, a large amount of research has been carried out in the light of cognitive linguistics over the world in general and in Vietnam in particular, and most of them have focused on semantics with a deeper insight into the use of conceptual metaphor in language. Conceptual metaphors involve two concepts and have the form A is B, where the more abstract concept A such as love, life, economy and argument is comprehended in terms of the more concrete concept B including war or a container. Therefore, the investigation into conceptual metaphors with the aim to find out similarities and differences of using this kind of meaning transference among languages in the world brings great benefits to the English teaching, learning and translating process. Life has been one of the most inspirational and enchanting topics for thousands of writers across the time.

Although the concept of life is commonly mentioned in our daily life or everyday conversations, its definition or true meaning cannot be described by only one or two words. Life is the mixture of everything – the mixture of happiness and sadness, success and failure, comfort and pain, encouragement and frustration, opportunities and obstacles, love and hatred, relief and sorrow, and struggle and surrender. Therefore, it is hard to fully comprehend the concept of life itself without any connection with other concrete notions or tangible objects. To illustrate that, imagine life is a game.

People are considered as players, who need to play as skillfully and fairly as they can with the aim to win, or acquire their own goals in life. If the concept of life is perceived in terms of a journey, people are considered as travellers trying their best to overcome all impediments on their way to reach the final destinations. As a result, the abstract concept of life can be metaphorically mentioned through other more delineated ones. Depending on the distinctive features of different cultures or specific geographical characteristics of regions in the world, life has its own uniqueness.

9 LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add [e-mail] The conceptualization of life in American and Vietnamese short stories and the universal and unique conceptual metaphors referring to life among languages have given me a great inspiration to carry out a research entitled: ―An investigation into conceptual metaphors denoting “life” in American and Vietnamese short stories from 1975 to 1991‖. Hopefully, the findings of this study would make a contribution to the process of understanding and interpretation of conceptual metaphors in American and Vietnamese short stories. Significance of the study This research is carried out in the hope to contribute a small part to the consolidation of cognitive linguistic theory in general, and cognitive semantics in particular. Although there are a number of investigations into conceptual metaphors in the world and in Vietnam as well, how the concept of life is conceptualized in short stories, and how metaphorical expressions used to denote this abstract notion are similar and different among languages, have not been examined yet.

Therefore, this study is expected to help learners who have not exposured much in life and might find it difficult to understand this concept when reading materials or having a conversation with foreign people. Moreover, it is hoped to contribute to the process of teaching and learning American literature in foreign languages departments or universities in Vietnam, and of translating American shorts stories or other forms of art into Vietnamese and vice verse. Aims and objectives 1. Aims of the study This research aims to: - Carry out an investigation into conceptual metaphors denoting life in some American and Vietnamese short stories based on the theory of cognitive semantics.

- Categorize these conceptual metaphors in the frame of linguistic cognitivism. - Analyze and discover the similarities and differences in the conceptual metaphors denoting the concept of life in some American and Vietnamese short stories. - Make some suggestions for foreign language teaching and learning, as well as for translating process.
