mở đầu và kết luận. Đoạn mở bài: “Probably, one of the most colorful ceremonies is the festival of "Eunoto," when the teenage boys of the Masai become men”.
Passage 7: (Trích đề thi THPT Quốc Gia năm 2018, mã đề 402) 19 skkn In this modern world where closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras are everywhere and smartphones in every pocket, the routine filming of everyday life is becoming pervasive. A number of countries are rolling out body cams for police officers; other public-facing agencies such as schools, councils and hospitals are also experimenting with cameras for their employees. Private citizens are getting in on the act too: cyclists increasingly wear headcams as a deterrent to aggressive drivers.
As camera technology gets smaller and cheaper, it isn't hard to envisage a future where we're all filming everything all the time, in every direction. Would that be a good thing? There are some obvious potential upsides. If people know they are on camera, especially when at work or using public services, they are surely less likely to misbehave. The available evidence suggests that it discourages behaviours such as vandalism.
Another upside is that it would be harder to get away with crimes or to evade blame for accidents. But a world on camera could have subtle negative effects. The deluge of data we pour into the hands of Google, Facebook and others has already proved a mixed blessing. Those companies would no doubt be willing to upload and curate our body-cam data for free, but at what cost to privacy and freedom of choice? Body-cam data could also create a legal minefield.
Disputes over the veracity and interpretation of police footage have already surfaced. Eventually, events not caught on camera could be treated as if they didn't happen. Alternatively, footage could be faked or doctored to dodge blame or incriminate others. Of course, there's always the argument that if you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to fear.
But most people have done something embarrassing, or even illegal, that they regret and would prefer they hadn't been caught on film. People already censor their social media feeds - or avoid doing anything incriminating in public - for fear of damaging their reputation. Would ubiquitous body cams have a further chilling effect on our freedom? The always-on-camera world could even threaten some of the attributes that make us human. We are natural gossips and backbiters, and while those might not be desirable behaviours, they oil the wheels of our social interactions.
Once people assume they are being filmed, they are likely to clam up. 20 skkn The argument in relation to body-cam ownership is a bit like that for guns: once you go past a critical threshold, almost everyone will feel they need one as an insurance policy. We are nowhere near that point yet - but we should think hard about whether we really want to say "lights, body cam, action." (Adapted from https://www.com) Question 35: What does the passage mainly discuss? A. The current public obsession with modern technology B.
The ubiquity of cameras and ensuing problems C. Legal disputes fuelled by body-cam data D. Data overload experienced by social network users Ở câu hỏi này, ta hãy đọc kĩ các dòng đầu tiên của các đoạn.
Dạng câu hỏi 2: Câu hỏi xác định mục đích tác giả (Purpose) Main ideas questions What is the author’s main purpose in the passage? Example: (Trích TOEFL Reading IBT) 21 skkn GENE POOL A Mendelian population is a natural interbreeding emtity of sexually reproducing plants and animals that share a common gene pool. Organism within a Medelian population are equally subject to reproductive failure and equally likely to reproduce. A gene pool is a complete set of unique DNA in a population.
A large gene pool indicates extensive genetic diversity. However, low genetic diversity can lead to reduces biological fitness and bigger chance of extinction. There are two type of genetic variation. The first is the level of homozygosity within individuals in a population, for example, the percentage of individuals loci that contains two identical copiesof a gene.
The second type is the level of monomorphism and polymorphism with a population. This is basically how different varieties of the same allele survive in a gene pool of population. For example, a gene which controls eye color in humans may have two alternative forms, an ellele that can produces blue eyes. In a plant, it may be an allele that produces tall and short forms of a plant.
The genes that form the genetic pool of the population are transmitted from one generation to the next in casual groupings of alleles. So it is from the gene pool of the parents that the gene pool of the descendants is formed. The bigger this gene pool is, the more likely genetic variation will exist in the next generation. Question 1: Why does the author mention eye color in paragraph 3? A.
To drow a comparison between plant and animals’ alleles B. To show that monomorphism is far more powerful than homoszygosity C. To explain why different genes survive and others do not. To demonstrate how there can be several different kinds of the same allele.
Question 2: The author discusses transmitted from one generation to the next in paragraph 4 in order to: A. provide a specific example of characteristics being passed on B. show how a large size gene pool could lead to more mutation in the next generation C. indicate how casual grouping leads to mass variations D.
demonstrate how a large gene pool will lead to less variation. Bởi vì tác giả bắt đầu viết về eye color bằng “for example” nên chúng ta hiểu rằng tác giả đang cố gắng làm rõ luận điểm đằng trước. 22 skkn Vậy để tìm câu trả lời cho câu hỏi 1, ta hãy đọc kĩ câu trước: “This is basically how different varieties of the same allele survive in a gene pool of population.” Vậy câu trả lời logic nhất là D. Đối với câu hỏi 2, tác giả miêu tả ngắn gọn việc di truyền từ thế hệ này sang thế hệ khác là để rút ra một kết luận: The bigger this gene pool is, the more likely genetic variation will exist in the next generation.
Bengal tigers, for instance, which once roamed the jungles in vast numbers, now number only about 2,300. By the year 2025, it is estimated that they will become extinct.
23 skkn What is alarming about the case of the Bengal tiger is that this extinction will have been caused almost entirely by poachers who, according to some sources, are not always interested in material gain but in personal gratification. This is an example of the callousness that is contributing to the problem of extinction. Animals such as the Bengal tiger, as well as other endangered species, are valuable parts of the world’s ecosystem. International laws protecting these animals must be enacted to ensure their survival – and the survival of our planet.
Countries around the world have begun to deal with the problem in various ways. Some countries, in an effort to circumvent the problem, have allocated large amounts of land to animals reserves. They then charge admission prices to help defray the costs of maintaining the parks, and they often must also depend on world organizations for support. This money enables them to invest in equipment and patrols to protect the animals. Another response to the increase in animal extinction is an international boycott of products made from endangered species.
This has had some effect, but by itself it will not prevent animals from being hunted and killed. Question 1: The passage is divided into two paragraphs in order to contrast: A. A comparison and a contrast B. A problem and a solution C.
