I. Nhận thức ngôn ngữ và biểu thức từ vựng chỉ chuyển động

Nghiên cứu này tập trung vào nhận thức ngôn ngữ và biểu thức từ vựng chỉ chuyển động trong tiếng Anh và tiếng Việt. Nhận thức ngôn ngữ được xem xét qua cách con người sử dụng từ vựng chỉ chuyển động để diễn đạt các sự kiện chuyển động. Biểu thức từ vựng được phân tích dựa trên các thành phần ngữ nghĩa được kết hợp vào động từ và giới từ. Nghiên cứu nhấn mạnh sự tương tác giữa động từ và giới từ trong việc tạo thành các sự kiện chuyển động.

1.1. Khái niệm chuyển động trong ngôn ngữ

Chuyển động là một khái niệm cơ bản trong ngôn ngữ, được biểu đạt qua các từ vựng chỉ chuyển động. Nghiên cứu này phân tích cách các ngôn ngữ khác nhau, như tiếng Anh và tiếng Việt, mã hóa thông tin về chuyển động thông qua các biểu thức từ vựng. Ví dụ, trong tiếng Anh, động từ 'jump' kết hợp với giới từ 'over' để diễn đạt một hành động nhảy qua một vật cản.

1.2. Biểu thức từ vựng chỉ chuyển động

Biểu thức từ vựng chỉ chuyển động bao gồm động từ và giới từ, tạo thành một cụm từ diễn đạt sự kiện chuyển động. Nghiên cứu này xem xét cách các thành phần ngữ nghĩa được kết hợp vào từ vựng chỉ chuyển động để tạo thành các mẫu từ vựng hóa (Lexicalization Patterns). Ví dụ, trong tiếng Việt, cụm từ 'chạy nháo nhác' diễn đạt một hành động chạy hỗn loạn.

II. So sánh ngôn ngữ và phân tích ngữ nghĩa

Nghiên cứu này thực hiện so sánh ngôn ngữ giữa tiếng Anh và tiếng Việt về cách sử dụng từ vựng chỉ chuyển động. Phân tích ngữ nghĩa được áp dụng để xác định các thành phần ngữ nghĩa được kết hợp vào động từ và giới từ. Nghiên cứu cũng phân tích cấu trúc cú pháp của các biểu thức từ vựng chỉ chuyển động để tìm ra sự tương đồng và khác biệt giữa hai ngôn ngữ.

2.1. So sánh từ vựng chỉ chuyển động

Nghiên cứu so sánh cách tiếng Anh và tiếng Việt sử dụng từ vựng chỉ chuyển động để diễn đạt các sự kiện chuyển động. Ví dụ, tiếng Anh thường sử dụng động từ 'run' kết hợp với giới từ 'to' để diễn đạt hành động chạy đến một địa điểm, trong khi tiếng Việt sử dụng cụm từ 'chạy về' để diễn đạt ý tương tự.

2.2. Phân tích ngữ nghĩa và cú pháp

Phân tích ngữ nghĩa tập trung vào cách các thành phần ngữ nghĩa được kết hợp vào từ vựng chỉ chuyển động. Phân tích cú pháp xem xét cấu trúc của các biểu thức từ vựng chỉ chuyển động trong hai ngôn ngữ. Nghiên cứu chỉ ra rằng tiếng Anh và tiếng Việt có sự tương đồng trong cấu trúc cú pháp nhưng khác biệt trong cách mã hóa ngữ nghĩa.

III. Ứng dụng và ý nghĩa thực tiễn

Nghiên cứu này có ý nghĩa quan trọng trong việc giảng dạy ngôn ngữ, nghiên cứu ngôn ngữ học và dịch thuật. Ngôn ngữ học ứng dụng được áp dụng để phân tích cách từ vựng chỉ chuyển động được sử dụng trong các ngữ cảnh khác nhau. Nghiên cứu cũng đề xuất các phương pháp giảng dạy hiệu quả dựa trên kết quả phân tích.

3.1. Ứng dụng trong giảng dạy ngôn ngữ

Nghiên cứu đề xuất các phương pháp giảng dạy từ vựng chỉ chuyển động trong tiếng Anh và tiếng Việt dựa trên kết quả phân tích. Ví dụ, giáo viên có thể sử dụng các biểu thức từ vựng chỉ chuyển động để giúp học sinh hiểu rõ hơn về cách diễn đạt các sự kiện chuyển động.

3.2. Ý nghĩa trong nghiên cứu ngôn ngữ học

Nghiên cứu này đóng góp vào lĩnh vực ngôn ngữ học đối chiếu và ngôn ngữ học nhận thức bằng cách phân tích cách các ngôn ngữ khác nhau mã hóa thông tin về chuyển động. Kết quả nghiên cứu có thể được sử dụng để phát triển các lý thuyết ngôn ngữ học mới.

To all mentioned, and to many more, my heart extends the warmest thanks! ii ABSTRACT Regarding a cognitive study on lexical expressions of motion (LEsM) in English and Vietnamese, the study, first, examines the semantic properties of LEsM which are associated with the semantic components (SCs) mapped onto linguistic surface forms (Su.F) to denote motion events (MEs), called lexicalization patterns (LPs).

Second, the study investigates the syntactic properties of LEsM that is concerned with the logical incorporation of surface forms to constitute motion events based on the conceptual basis of grammar, the construction grammar more precisely which includes argument structures and event structures. In doing so, the dissertation aims to establish several frameworks to analyze the semantics and syntax of LEsM and to elicit the similarities and differences in LEsM between English and Vietnamese in terms of semantic and syntactic properties. Concerning data analysis, the study draws on some main methods to collect as well as analyze the data, namely deductive and inductive, quantitative and qualitative, and descriptive methods. Moreover, the comparison may help the researcher recognize the major similarities and differences in LEsM between English and Vietnamese.

Besides the methods mentioned above, some other methods could be harnessed when necessary. The study reveals that both LPs and construction grammar of LEsM in English and Vietnamese were found and emerged with the remarkable similarities and differences. The result shows that the argument structures of LEsM in English and Vietnamese are relatively similar in terms of their distribution as well as frequency. In contrast, there are considerable differences in LEsM between English and Vietnamese in terms of semantic properties.

This can be expounded to be due to a variety of conceptual and cultural aspects. Therefore, the overall objective of the study is to investigate the semantics and syntax of LEsM in English and Vietnamese. From the results above, the dissertation suggests fundamental implications for language teaching and learning, linguistic research and translation. One of the results found in the dissertation will have practical implication for each domain.
