I. Tổng quan về việc cải thiện kỹ năng nghe tiếng Anh qua Podcasts

Khóa luận này tập trung vào việc cải thiện kỹ năng nghe của sinh viên năm nhất ngành Ngôn ngữ Anh tại Trường Đại học Quản lý và Công nghệ Hải Phòng thông qua việc sử dụng podcasts. Kỹ năng nghe là một trong những kỹ năng quan trọng nhất trong việc học ngôn ngữ, và việc áp dụng podcasts có thể mang lại nhiều lợi ích cho sinh viên. Nghiên cứu này sẽ phân tích cách mà podcasts có thể giúp sinh viên nâng cao khả năng nghe của họ.

1.1. Định nghĩa và tầm quan trọng của kỹ năng nghe

Kỹ năng nghe được định nghĩa là khả năng tiếp nhận và hiểu thông tin từ âm thanh. Theo Guo và Wills (2006), kỹ năng nghe là phương tiện chính để con người tiếp thu kiến thức và thông tin. Việc cải thiện kỹ năng nghe không chỉ giúp sinh viên giao tiếp hiệu quả mà còn tạo nền tảng cho các kỹ năng ngôn ngữ khác.

1.2. Lợi ích của việc sử dụng podcasts trong học tập

Sử dụng podcasts trong học tập mang lại nhiều lợi ích như tạo động lực cho sinh viên, giúp họ tiếp cận với ngôn ngữ tự nhiên và cải thiện khả năng nghe. Podcasts cũng cung cấp một nguồn tài liệu phong phú và đa dạng, giúp sinh viên làm quen với nhiều giọng nói và ngữ điệu khác nhau.

II. Thách thức trong việc cải thiện kỹ năng nghe của sinh viên năm nhất

Sinh viên năm nhất thường gặp nhiều khó khăn trong việc phát triển kỹ năng nghe tiếng Anh. Những thách thức này bao gồm việc thiếu nền tảng ngôn ngữ, khó khăn trong việc hiểu ngữ điệu và tốc độ nói của người bản ngữ. Nghiên cứu này sẽ chỉ ra những vấn đề chính mà sinh viên phải đối mặt và cách mà podcasts có thể giúp giải quyết những vấn đề này.

2.1. Những khó khăn phổ biến trong kỹ năng nghe

Nhiều sinh viên gặp khó khăn trong việc nhận diện từ vựng và cấu trúc câu khi nghe. Họ thường không thể theo kịp tốc độ nói của người bản ngữ, dẫn đến việc không hiểu được nội dung chính của bài nghe.

2.2. Tác động của môi trường học tập đến kỹ năng nghe

Môi trường học tập tại Trường Đại học Quản lý và Công nghệ Hải Phòng có thể ảnh hưởng đến khả năng nghe của sinh viên. Việc thiếu các phương pháp giảng dạy hiện đại và tài liệu học tập phong phú có thể làm giảm hiệu quả học tập của sinh viên.

III. Phương pháp cải thiện kỹ năng nghe qua podcasts

Nghiên cứu này đề xuất một số phương pháp cụ thể để cải thiện kỹ năng nghe của sinh viên thông qua việc sử dụng podcasts. Các phương pháp này bao gồm việc lựa chọn podcasts phù hợp, thiết lập lịch học tập và sử dụng các công cụ hỗ trợ học tập.

3.1. Lựa chọn podcasts phù hợp cho sinh viên

Việc lựa chọn podcasts phù hợp với trình độ và sở thích của sinh viên là rất quan trọng. Các podcasts nên có nội dung hấp dẫn và dễ hiểu để sinh viên có thể tiếp cận một cách hiệu quả.

3.2. Thiết lập lịch học tập hiệu quả

Sinh viên cần thiết lập một lịch học tập rõ ràng để dành thời gian nghe podcasts mỗi ngày. Việc này không chỉ giúp cải thiện kỹ năng nghe mà còn tạo thói quen học tập tích cực.

IV. Ứng dụng thực tiễn và kết quả nghiên cứu

Nghiên cứu đã chỉ ra rằng việc sử dụng podcasts có tác động tích cực đến kỹ năng nghe của sinh viên năm nhất. Kết quả khảo sát cho thấy sinh viên cảm thấy tự tin hơn khi nghe tiếng Anh và có khả năng hiểu nội dung tốt hơn.

4.1. Kết quả khảo sát từ sinh viên

Kết quả khảo sát cho thấy 80% sinh viên cảm thấy kỹ năng nghe của họ đã được cải thiện sau khi sử dụng podcasts. Họ cũng cho biết rằng việc nghe podcasts giúp họ làm quen với ngữ điệu và từ vựng phong phú hơn.

4.2. Phản hồi từ giảng viên

Giảng viên cũng nhận thấy sự tiến bộ rõ rệt trong khả năng nghe của sinh viên. Họ khuyến khích việc tiếp tục sử dụng podcasts như một phương pháp học tập hiệu quả trong tương lai.

V. Kết luận và triển vọng tương lai

Khóa luận này đã chứng minh rằng việc sử dụng podcasts là một phương pháp hiệu quả để cải thiện kỹ năng nghe của sinh viên năm nhất tại Trường Đại học Quản lý và Công nghệ Hải Phòng. Tương lai, việc áp dụng công nghệ trong giảng dạy sẽ tiếp tục được mở rộng.

5.1. Đề xuất cho nghiên cứu tiếp theo

Nghiên cứu tiếp theo có thể mở rộng ra các đối tượng sinh viên khác và áp dụng các phương pháp học tập mới để đánh giá hiệu quả của podcasts trong việc cải thiện kỹ năng nghe.

5.2. Tương lai của việc học tiếng Anh qua podcasts

Với sự phát triển của công nghệ, việc học tiếng Anh qua podcasts sẽ ngày càng trở nên phổ biến và hiệu quả hơn. Các ứng dụng học tập sẽ tiếp tục được cải tiến để phục vụ nhu cầu học tập của sinh viên.

In constructing this research, the researcher collected data from the classroom action research, which was carried out through four steps. They were plan, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were 20 students.

During this research, the technique of analyzing data was applied by using qualitative data which was taken from informal interview, and questionnaire. The result of analysis showed that there was development on the students’ ability in listening skill and it indicated that using English Podcasts in listening skill was effective, and the students’ ability in listening skill has been improved by using English Podcasts as learning media. In qualitative analysis, the students also looked active and enthusiastic in listening learning process by using the Podcasts as learning media. Acknowledgements I am very grateful to Dr.

Rationale of the study Listening is a creative skill. There are some medias which can be used in listening learning process, such as audio media, audio-visual media, etc. example for audio media is radio, music, podcasts, and so on.

While the example of audio-visual is video, film/movie, television, etc. Media such as a Podcasts has significant roles to motivate the students in listening learning process and to make the atmosphere in learning process more interesting. Podcasts are particularly appropriate for the practice of extensive listening, for the purpose of motivating students to listen. Podcasts offers a good chance for the students and the teachers.

Nowadays using Podcasts is easier. There are many different mobile applications available for people to use to subscribe and to listen to Podcasts. Many of these applications allow users to download Podcasts or to stream them on demand as an alternative to downloading. This can fulfill the needs of different learners.

Those can be downloaded by learners themselves. Teaching listening English at Hai Phong University of Management and Technology is intended to develop student communicative competence. The target in teaching and learning English at Hai Phong University of Management and Technology is to enable the learners to apply the mastery of English skills to communicate orally. Teaching students at Hai Phong University of Management and Technology is focused on the ability to communicate with it.

It means that the communication competence of the students is emphasized. However, during learning listening at Hai Phong University of Management and Technology, students face with certain situations, they are still unfamiliar with the listening subject itself. Students are unable to catch the sentences even the words. It is because they are unable to listen to the English text well in the listening class.

Somehow they can listen to the sentence, but they fail to write what they hear. Many of them even fail to find the main idea, supporting ideas or the details from the recording. The students may lack the background knowledge about foreign countries and cultures. So sometimes they cannot understand the material or they may misunderstand the 1 meaning of it.

We can use Podcasts in the classroom as one way to help focus on language systems. Nowadays, many new technologies have supported for the listening skill that expected to improve listening comprehension skill. Students are expected to make improvement in having listening class by using Podcasts. It is the reason why the researcher decided to carry out this research: “Improving the first year English majors’ listening skill through Podcasts at Hai Phong University of Management and Technology” II.

Aims of the study My study aims to help first year English majored students at Hai Phong University of Management and Technology understand the background knowledge of listening skill and offer effective way to learn listening through Podcasts. In general, my study is aimed at: - Give the background knowledge of Podcasts - Find out reality of teaching and learning listening skill at Hai Phong University of Management and Technology. - Give some Podcasts apps to improve the first year English majored listening skill at Hai Phong University of Management and Technology. Scope of the study This study was conducted based on data collection of first year English majors from Hai Phong University of Management and Technology.

This study based on various references material and from my own experience. I hope that this study is a good reference material for the first year English majored as well as all students who wish to get better listening skill. Method of the study To finish this study, I carried out some following methods: - To consult the references material on Internet, book, websites - Informal interview and the survey questionnaires are carried for the first year English majored students at Hai Phong University of Management and Technology 2 to collect opinions on attitudes, the biggest difficulties, the advantages when learning English through Podcasts and students' opinions on the current teaching method. The research question: How is the improvement of the 1st year English majors’ listening skill at Hai Phong University of Management and Technology through Podcasts? V.

Design of the study This study consists of three parts: PART I: INTRODUCTION In this part, I introduce the rationale, the aim of the study, the scope of the study, the method of the study and the design of the study. PART II: THE STUDY consists of three chapters: Chapter 1: Literature review This chapter introduces about listening skill, its definition, importance, difficulties and ways of learning listening.
