Rationale In the context of an increasingly globalized economy, optimizing production processes to enhance productivity and product quality is essential for all manufacturing enterprises. AkzoNobel, renowned for its leading position in the paint and coatings industry, continuously strives to improve and optimize its manufacturing operations to meet market demands.
In June 2024, AkzoNobel's plant in China undertook an expansion of its production capacity. During this expansion period, Intersleek orders were transferred to the AkzoNobel Amata plant in Vietnam for production over a span of three months. Currently, the AkzoNobel Amata plant primarily serves Intersleek orders for customers from Malaysia. However, with this transition, the plant will also be receiving orders from China in the short term.
The sudden increase in production volume presents a significant challenge for the Intersleek workshop at Amata, requiring an effective strategy to ensure uninterrupted production and the maintenance of product quality. To address the heightened production demand, the application of Lean methodology to the production process at the Intersleek workshop has become more critical than ever. Lean not only aids in optimizing processes and eliminating waste but also enhances productivity and ensures product quality. This is especially important as the Intersleek workshop at Amata faces a larger workload within a short timeframe while meeting high expectations from international customers.
Research Objectives General Objective: To investigate the current state of production management at the Intersleek plant of AkzoNobel Coating Vietnam during the internship period. Based on this investigation, propose solutions to enhance production efficiency, increase output from 1494L to 6000L. Research Subjects and Scope Research Subject: The production process at the Intersleek plant. Scope of Research: The production plant and related departments at the Intersleek plant of AkzoNobel.
Research Duration: From June to August 2024. Research Methods Observation Method: Observing production activities and quality control within the company. Data Collection Method: Conducting surveys, measurements, and collecting sample data from the production site at various time intervals. This approach allows for accurate results based on the collected data.
Mathematical Method: Analyzing the current state of waste at the Intersleek factory, identifying the causes of waste, and subsequently proposing solutions. The study employs a multi-method approach, integrating Lean principles, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. These methods collectively optimize operational efficiency, map value streams, evaluate performance, and streamline enterprise processes.
