[iv] ABSTRACT The protection of constructed heritage is increasingly intertwined with the routine upkeep of structures, making conservation a practical requirement on daily basis. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the most efficient means of understanding existing architectural structures, combining the most sophisticated capabilities of 3D modeling with the organized storage of heterogeneous data.
BIM is utilized by the construction industry for the decentralized planning and control of interventions, but it has also affected the intricate management of architectural built heritage. Despite the recent considerable development in the usage of BIM in the field of Cultural Heritage (CH), the application of Heritage Building Information Modeling (HBIM) of cultural property intended for preservation is still limited. One of them is the unique diversity of Vietnamese traditional architecture that needs to be considered to assess the status of restoration and conservation. The advancement of data capture technologies such as 3D Laser Scanning and improved photogrammetry, coupled with the continued power of HBIM authoring tools, has enabled the generation of more accurate digital representations of heritage buildings, which can then be utilized in renovation and refurbishment projects.
This master's thesis aims (1) to create a database of historical structures using HBIM that focuses not only on different methods of geometrical surveying and 3D modeling, but also on the measurement information contained in the model, particularly related to conservation, testing, and monitoring from the fundamental Scan-to-HBIM process; (2) to apply in a specific case study, namely Hung Kings Temple (HCMC) and (3) preliminary assessment of the model information level of development (LOD). To accomplish this, a framework is proposed in which the level of development and implementation model of various analysis stages are specified as well for future research assessment. Keywords: Cultural Heritage; Heritage Building Information Modeling (HBIM); Facility Management; BIM Database; Conservation.
