The swift advancement of information technology and telecommunications has spurred consumer demand for ICT goods and services. High-tech items like smartphones, tablets, and smart home devices are increasingly prevalent in daily life. Today's consumers often opt for ICT products and services to enhance their quality of life and work, fostering a robust and varied consumer market. Another significant factor contributing to the growth of the ICT retail sector is the surge in e-commerce.
A report by Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company (2020) predicts that Vietnam's e-commerce market will reach $52 billion by 2025, with an annual growth rate of 29%. This expansion not only broadens the scope of traditional retail but also encourages the emergence of new business models within the ICT industry. Additionally, the Vietnamese government has been advancing policies to support the development of information technology and telecommunications, including the deployment of 5G networks, national digital transformation programs, and IT infrastructure projects. These policies create favorable conditions for the ICT industry's growth and attract both domestic and foreign investment, contributing to the economy's sustainable development.
In this context, analyzing and valuing leading companies in the ICT retail industry such as MWG, FRT, DGW, and PET are interested by many investors and decicion makers. These companies are not only prominent and influential in the industry, but 2 they also play a crucial role in shaping the trends and development of Vietnam's ICT retail market. This research aims to provide investment recommendations for four companies through comprehensive evaluations of various aspects such as financial status, operational efficiency, business strategy, and growth potential. The research scope includes: Analyzing the financial situation and business performance of MWG, FRT, DGW, and PET during the period from 2018 to 2023; Valuing the companies' stocks using widely accepted valuation methods; Making investment recommendations.
The thesis structure is divided into 5 main chapters, including: Chapter 1: Introduction Chapter 2: Research Methodology Chapter 3: PEST and industrial analysis of the Vietnam’s retail market for ICT products Chapter 4: Company analysis and valuation of MWG, FRT, DGW and PET Chapter 5: Conclusion 3 CHAPTER 2: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY 4 2.1 Research design The research will employ a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The thesis will investigate fundamental business information, including the company's market position, scale of operations, number of stores, and relationships with suppliers, customers, and competitors to have a qualitative understanding about the companies. The quantitative aspect will involve gathering data on business operations and financial performance, as well as constructing valuation models to assess the company's value.2 Data collection techniques and data sources The research will use secondary data gathered from various sources: For macroeconomic indicators and metrics related to the ICT retail industry, the main data sources are from Statista, the World Bank, the Vietnam General Statistics Office, Bloomberg, Tradingview, and Investing. Companies’ financial data are collected from financial or annual reports, and prospectuses available on each company's website.
