Bui Thị Thao Ly — 11163215 — Business English 58A EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Labor productivity is one of the most important management topics that received significant research attention from several scholars and considered as a primary mechanism to enhance organizational success. Knowing what are the key factors that influence productivity is vital to ensure long term performance.
In this research study, the author's purpose is to identify and rank the relative importance of factors recognized to affect the labor productivity at the hotel chain of Lumina Vietnam Co., Ltd, then giving some suggestions to improving the company’s labor productivity. To accomplish this purpose, the primary data using survey instruments were collected from a sample of 98 employees working at the hotels of Lumina Vietnam Co. The collected data was analyzed using Excel software, moreover, the author also gathered professional opinions from the company's Board of management through depth interviews. Analysis of the data revealed three main factors have an impact on labor productivity of the business as follow: ° “Group of factors relating to employees themselves” includes: health, experience, qualification, ability-skills, sense of responsibility, motivation.
° “Group of factors relating to working condition” includes: Physiological psychology factors, psychological-social factors, and living conditions of workers factors. ° “Group of factors relating to business management” includes: management capacity, flexibility in approval, application of information technology in management. On the basis of these findings, it is recommended that improving labor productivity will help the company grow revenue and achieve high efficiency in business. Lumina Vietnam Co., Ltd would implement solutions to improve labor motivation, labor quality, and working environment; in particular, the company needs to complete criteria for evaluating work performance, increasing enhancing training and skills development, and improving the relationship between employees and superiors.

Rationales The tourism industry has determined as one of the key economic sectors in many countries around the world (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, 2007).
It not only brings a significant source of income to the economy, creates jobs, stimulates service sectors, and infrastructure, but also promotes cultural exchanges. In the process of international economic integration, Vietnam has identified and endeavored to enhance its advantages and implement multiple solutions to turn tourism into a key economic sector of the country. This will contribute positively to the implementation of the open-door policy, promote innovation and development of many other economic sectors, create job opportunities, expand cooperation between the country and foreign countries, facilitate the enhancement of friendship, peace and mutual understanding between people and nations. Real Situation: From the early 90s, Vietnam has witnessed an upward trend in the number of accommodation establishments, according to Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, there were more than 12.000 hotel rooms in the 2010s (nearly 4.5 times higher than the previous 30 years).
That not only caused supply to exceed demand but also made the fierce competition and hotel businesses have become more difficult. So the question for managers is how to be able to stand firm in the market when the business has to face a great deal of difficulties? In such conditions, businesses must always find ways to improve products, service quality, labor productivity, expand markets, etc. It is noteworthy that the important and decisive resources are not technology, information, relationships, or financial resources, it is human. Particularly, in the hospitality industry, the labor force plays an indispensable role so that businesses should not only recruit and allocate the right people and the right occupations but also encourage and motivate employees to maximize their intellectual abilities.
According to the Manager of Human Resources Department at Lumina Viet Nam Co., Ltd, although hotel leaders were concerned about the labor productivity and implementation of several measures, so far, they have not brought any expected results. To find out, evaluate the cause of the existence and propose measures to help the enterprise continue to develop further, the author decided to choose the Bui Thị Thao Ly — 11163215 — Business English 58A topic "A Study on Labor Productivity at the Hotel Chain of Lumina Viet Nam Co., Ltd from 2017 to 2019" as the graduate research thesis. Research objectives The study aims at evaluating and measuring the factors that affect labor productivity at the hotel chain of the company; moreover, based on the analysis and assessment of the current situation of working motivation for employees the study will propose the most appropriate recommendations to improve labor productivity. Question 2: Which factors have the most impact on the labor productivity of Lumina Vietnam Co., Ltd in the period of 2017-2019? Question 3: What are some recommendations for further enhancement in staff productivity at Lumina Vietnam Co.
