I. Dịch thuật và lý thuyết dịch thuật

Dịch thuật là quá trình chuyển đổi ý nghĩa từ một văn bản nguồn sang ngôn ngữ đích, đảm bảo thông điệp được truyền tải một cách chính xác. Các khái niệm về dịch thuật được định nghĩa bởi nhiều học giả, từ việc coi dịch thuật là quá trình thay thế văn bản (Catford, 1965) đến việc nhấn mạnh sự tương đương về ngữ nghĩa và phong cách (Nida, 1984). Dịch thuật chuyên ngành, đặc biệt trong lĩnh vực hàng hải, đòi hỏi sự hiểu biết sâu sắc về thuật ngữ kỹ thuật và ngôn ngữ chuyên ngành. Nghiên cứu này tập trung vào việc dịch thuật ngữ kỹ thuật hàng hải từ tiếng Anh sang tiếng Việt, nhằm đảm bảo sự chính xác và hiệu quả trong giao tiếp chuyên môn.

1.1. Khái niệm dịch thuật

Dịch thuật được định nghĩa là quá trình chuyển đổi ý nghĩa từ văn bản nguồn sang ngôn ngữ đích, tạo ra một văn bản tương đương về mặt thông điệp. Theo Nida (1984), dịch thuật không chỉ đơn thuần là thay thế từ ngữ mà còn phải đảm bảo sự tương đương về ngữ nghĩa và phong cách. Trong dịch thuật chuyên ngành, đặc biệt là thuật ngữ kỹ thuật hàng hải, việc hiểu rõ các khái niệm và bối cảnh sử dụng là yếu tố then chốt để đạt được sự chính xác.

1.2. Phương pháp dịch thuật

Có nhiều phương pháp dịch thuật được áp dụng, từ dịch từng từ (word-for-word translation) đến dịch ý (idiomatic translation).
