THE NECESSITY OF THE RESEARCH Nowadays, the banking industry can be considered the backbone of the economy as it covers all economic activities of the country. Although it does not directly generate wealth nor create products for the economy, the activities of the banking industry play an extremely important role in boosting the economy. Through its variety of policies and products, the banking industry creates many opportunities for enterprises to quickly and conveniently expand their business, which in turn helps the economy have a convenient and transparent cash flow system and avoids large amounts of idle cash on the market. All information related to the banking industry is always the top concern topic for enterprises, the government and individual customers because even a small change in policies, interest rates or operational activities of this industry can transform into either a big opportunity or an enormous challenge for all of them.
Commercial banks are financial institutions which operate in the monetary sector; in which financing activities on the basis of customers’ credit are the main activities that generate profits for them. As a result, credit relationships are extremely important because they affect all economic activities in the national economy and determine the existence and development of one bank. In addition, we can easily notice that credit and investment items usually account for the largest proportion of the bank's total assets (about 70% - 80%) on most banks' balance sheets because they are the main source of revenue for the banks. In order to ensure that commercial banks can maintain their operations and develop steadily, it is required that commercial banks' credit operations must be closely and efficiently regulated.
As a result, all the stages of credit activities must be carried out according to the approved principles to ensure that commercial banks can recover both capital and interest when the loans expire. Along with the innovation and development of the entire banking industry, Global Petroleum Commercial Sole 9 Member Limited Commercial Bank (GPBank) has focused on credit activities and is gradually improving its business over the years to meet the requirements of economic development in the process of industrialization and modernization of the country. I was assigned to be in charge of individual customers for the risk management department of GPBank; and I realized that there were outstanding problems in the credit procedures. Therefore, with the help of the Board of Directors and all colleagues in the Risk Management Department and the enthusiastic guidance of Mrs.
Diem Thi Thanh Hai, I decided to choose the topic: “Individual Client Credit At Global Petro Sole Member Limited Commercial Bank (GPBank)” II. RESEARCH OBJECTIOVES - The research is based on theory and practice about promoting the strength of personal loan products at GPBank - Systematizing the fundamental issues related to lending services and lending processes. - Analyzing the lending strategy, lending activities and the method used to manage personal’ loans at GPBank - Analyzing GPBank’s credit quality along with the strengths and weaknesses of lending services. - Proposing feasible solutions in order to improve credit's quality.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY - Firstly, During the research process, I have applied the following research methods: document research, practical experience, analyze and compare. - Secondly, I am currently an employee in charge of credit for individual customers for the risk management department of GPBank. In order to achieve the best results for the research, I got approval from my department manager and colleagues to collect incentive data about the credit products and financial reports of GPBank in 2018, 2019, and 2020. This data gave me the most accurate and general information about the performance of GP Bank.
During the research, I also consulted and collected trustworthy data from financial journals and public data from GSO. 10 Additionally, I did my research on all the Decisions of the State Bank of Vietnam relating to Commercial Banks and especially the credit products for individual customers. - Last but not least, I myself became a customer of GP bank to get a personal loan; therefore, I had personal experiences about the bank’s credit activities from the customer's perspective. RESEARCH STRUCTURE The structure will consist of 3 main chapters CHAPTER 1.

Definition of bank credit Banks are the most concentrated manifestation of all economic activities of the country; and information related to banking activities is always the top concern of businesses, personal customers and the government. Commercial banks are economic organizations which are operating in the monetary sector in which financing activities on the basis of credit are the main activities that bring profits to commercial banks. As a result, stages of credit activities must be done correctly according to approved principles to ensure that commercial banks can recover both capital and interest at the end of the loan term. The definition of bank credit is: “The monetary credit relationship where one side is the bank - an organization specializing in trading in the monetary field with the other side being all organizations and individuals in a society in which the bank plays the role of both a borrower and a lender”.
Besides that, “Credit approval means an agreement for an organization or individual to use an amount of money or committing to allow the use of an amount of money on the principle of repayment by loan operations, discount, financial leasing, payment, bank guarantee and other credit operations”. This is the main form of credit in the market economy, it always meets the needs of social reproduction. As a borrower: Banks mobilize all temporarily idle capital in society by accepting deposits from businesses, organizations or individuals or issuing certificates of deposit and bonds to mobilize capital in society. As a lender: Banks fulfill the needs of businesses, organizations and individuals when there is a lack of capital that needs to be supplemented in business and consumption activities.
