Dinh Thi Bac Binh, the lecturer of Faculty of Foreign languages, Banking Academy.
Key words: E-banking, Consumer behavior, Influencing factors, Recommendations. E-banking services are widely concerned because of its functionality and convenience, especially in the current Covid-19 context. This thesis studies the influence of factors on customers’ decision in using E-banking. Based on the theoretical background of previous studies and the extension of the Technology Acceptance model (TAM), research hypotheses on factors affecting customer decision in using e-banking are built and accredited.
The SPSS Statistic 22.0 is used to analyze the data of the questionnaire which are performed by 207 E-banking customers at Commercial Banks. The results show that all factors “Ease of Use”, “Usefulness”, “Social Impact” and “Security” have a positive impact and explain 64.9% of Customer’s E-banking usage. Following that, suggested solutions for banks to increase the number of customers as well as improve the quality of E- banking services are provided. Introduction In recent years, the development of information technology has affected all aspects of economic and social life, which changes production and business activities as well as perception of different industries, especially the Banking system.
Therefore, the continuous renewal of services is extremely essential, in which E-banking services are of the most concern. Thanks to outstanding advantages such as convenience, speed, time saving, etc. E-banking is quickly accepted by customers. In Vietnam, with 70% of the population using the Internet and the number of mobile subscribers is 145.8 million (Digital 2020 report), there would be a higher demand for E-banking.
As a result, the author chooses the topic “A study on Factors affecting customers' decision to use E-banking services at Commercial banks in Vietnam” in order to learn more about the needs of customers for this service. Background of the study In 2020, the outbreak of Covid-19 made a change in consumer behavior. With the aim of minimizing direct contact between people, as well as providing certain utilities during the epidemic prevention period, online payment services are widely used by installing e-banking and linking bank accounts with shopping apps. A report by the Department of E-Commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) shows that, with 53% of the population participating in online shopping, the e-commerce market in Vietnam in 2020 grew by 18%.
By the end of 2020, the number of payments via mobile phones increased compared to 2019. As a result, electronic banking services have grown significantly. Objectives of the study Understanding the issue of E-banking and its evolution in Vietnam Identifying the factors that influence customer ’s decision to use E-banking Offering some effective solutions in the development of e-banking services for the State Bank and Commercials Bank based on those influencing factors. Significance of the study 2 The thesis provides information to improve users' knowledge about E-banking services.
From understanding the benefits and disadvantages of the service, it’s possible for customers to use E-banking in the most effective way. Besides, the project’s goal is to help Banks develop E-banking services quality and attract more potential customers by offering a variety of recommendations. Scope and limitation of the study Scope: The writer has looked into the perception of Customers who use E-banking services in Vietnam. The thesis is entirely performed via online channels, including searching information related to E-banking and collecting questionnaire data.
Limitation: Because of limited time, the questionnaire for the graduation thesis reaches a small range of customers (mainly University students). Besides, the lack of knowledge leads to in-depth analysis of all aspects of the problem. Understanding these shortcomings, the writer hopes that she will give feedback from lecturers and readers to complete the graduation thesis. Definition of terms E-banking is a service used by computers and telecommunications in which banking transactions are allowed to perform via telephone or computer rather than through direct person-to-person contact.
(Wikipedia) Consumer behavior: is the study of the process people make purchase decisions to satisfy their needs, wants or desires. (Enis,1974) Internet Banking is a service that enables customers to make transactions via internet-connected devices. Mobile Banking is a service allows its customers to conduct financial transactions remotely using a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet Technology Information is an engineering branch that uses computers and software to convert, store, protect, process, transmit, and collect information. ATM is a banking equipment for automatic transactions with customers, performing customer identification through cards Technology Acceptance Model is a research model of factors related to technology adoption 3 CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW OF E-BANKING AND CONSUMER BEHAVIOR 2.
Literature review E-banking brings many benefits to users as well as to the banks which supply these services. However, the rate of customers using the service in Vietnam is still limited for a number of reasons. Therefore, some researchers focus on understanding the factors affecting the intention to use services in order to find out the causes and solutions to improve the service utilization rate in the country. “Understanding the determinants to use behavior of Mobile Banking: Extending UTAUT model with perceived risk and trust” is a research topic by Hoang Ha (2019).
The author built a proposed research model including 6 factors affecting usage behavior which are efficiency, perceived effort, favorable conditions, reliability, social influence, and perceived risk on the basis of extending the UTAUT model. The results of data testing with a sample of 142 customers show that there are 3 factors affecting consumption behavior which are convenience, efficiency and reliability. These factors explain 43.4% of customers' decision to use Mobile Banking. With the topic "Chat luong dich vu va anh huong xa hoi trong su chap nhan thanh toan dien tu", Nguyen Duy Thanh and Huynh Anh Phuc (2017) in their research paper were based on the synthesis of theoretical framework such as TAM (Davis et al, 1989), TRA (Fishbein et al, 1975), UTAUT (Venkatesh et al, 2003) and E- Commerce Success Model (DeLone and McLean,1902) to hypothesize the relationship among factors affecting the acceptance of electronic payments and the relationship between these factors and electronic payments acceptance.
The research results show that, for electronic payments in Vietnam, social influence has the most direct and indirect impact (through ease of use). Additionally, TAM model (Davis et al, 1989) is also referred by Le Thi Kim Tuyet (2008) in her research with the topic “Mo hinh cac nhan to anh huong den y dinh su dung dich vu Internet Banking nghien cuu tai thi truong Vietnam”. The results show 4 a strong relationship between perceived usefulness, perceived reliability and ease of use on intention to use Internet Banking of customers. Theoretical and Conceptual framework 2.
What is E-banking Daniel (2000) defines e-banking as the delivery of Banks' information and services by banks to customers via different delivery platforms that can be used with different terminal devices such as a personal computer and a mobile phone with browser or desktop software, telephone or digital television. Pikkarainen, Karjaluoto and Pahnila (2004) defines Internet banking to be the “internet portal through which customers can use different kinds of banking services ranging from bill payment to making investment”. E-banking is a service used by computers and telecommunications in which banking transactions are allowed to perform via telephone or computer rather than through direct person-to-person contact. (Wikipedia) In general, the definitions of E-banking assume that this is a service using electronic devices such as computers, laptops, mobile phones, etc.
